Did you feel the earthquake? A magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook our campus this morning. How can we know how structures will react to such an event? Lehigh University has several facilities and experts that study earthquakes and other natural hazards to find out, and to develop ways to mitigate potential damage. The ATLSS Structural Engineering Research Center which can test structures to withstand various forces over different time durations and NHERI DesignSafe performs real-time multi-directional forces, particularly for civil infrastructures such as bridges and buildings.
