In the two weeks following a politicized, self-interested call to "delete" the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, here is what the CFPB has done for real people: - Returned nearly TWO BILLION (yes, with a B) dollars to people who tried to fix their credit scores and were scammed. - Sued Comerica Bank for harming veterans and older Americans by intentionally disconnecting their customer service calls and charging them illegal junk fees. - Started a rulemaking to rein in shady data brokers that profit from selling your sensitive personal information and putting highly vulnerable individuals at risk. - Permanently banned a student loan debt relief scammer from offering or providing any future consumer financial services. As Director Chopra said, deleting the CFPB is like begging for another financial crisis. It is not surprising that the wealthy corporations who profit from illegal conduct want to eviscerate the Bureau, but advocates (like me) are prepared to fight like hell to keep it.
Add made it easier for you to terminate those automatic renewing contracts.
I'm sure there's no connection between Elon's interest in getting rid of the CFPB and his interest in adding a payment system to X. What would the CFPB's concerns be about such a payment system? In my view: Data privacy, Data Security, Transparency, Fairness.
Well stated, Cleo
