This is a random photo I took the other day because I liked it. Then I started to think about how many different property and construction consultants will have been involved in the subjects of this one photo. The major development of a brand new office: Every discipline you could think of on this. Major projects are where most disciplines come together. Project managers, surveyors (party wall, rights to light), quantity surveyors, planning consultants, geotechnical surveyors, transport consultants, asbestos surveyors, sustainability consultants and every type of designer and engineer going. The refurb of the pub façade: An asset manager for the brewery to keep and eye on their buildings, almost definitely a building surveyor to look at the façade refurb and probably a project manager or a contract administrator to oversee the works. The public realm art: A structural engineer and architect to work alongside the artists to turn design into reality. A planning consultant would be a must and probably a project manager and contract administrator. This is why our industry is really exciting and why I feel we should telling young people about the opportunities this industry will provide them. A career that can evolve and develop as you find what you love. Being in the #property and #construction industry isn’t just about selling (what most people think “property” means) or digging holes for new houses in the rain (what most people think “construction” means). It’s about forming the entire built environment around us. It can be a desk job, a site job, a design job, a manual job, a lonely job, a social job or all of them. Sometimes in one day.
