🌟 I am thrilled to share that my son has officially had his patent issued! 🎉✨ This milestone marks not only a significant achievement for him but also underscores the importance of protecting intellectual property in today’s innovation-driven world. Securing a patent is more than just a legal formality; it’s a critical step in safeguarding the creativity and hard work that goes into developing new ideas and technologies. For young inventors especially, it provides a foundation for future growth, collaboration, and success. This is a reminder to all the young innovators out there: keep dreaming big, stay curious, and remember that your ideas have the power to change the world. And to those who support them—whether as mentors, educators, or family members—your encouragement and belief in their potential make all the difference. The process has been a tremendous learning experience for him and we could not have done it without the help of Peter Hagerty and Tina Dorr. I can’t wait to see where he will take this. Here’s to celebrating this incredible achievement and looking forward to many more innovations to come! 🚀🔬💡 #ProudParent #YoungInventors #IntellectualProperty #Innovation #FutureLeaders #PatentSuccess

Happy World IP Day! Excited to share a draft of my new paper with Jillian Grennan, "Unpacking the Innovator-Inventor Gap: Evidence from Engineers," in which we analyze ~ 4,000 survey responses from engineers at high-tech firms and administrative data in the form of invention disclosure databases to uncover who, anong innovators, becomes an inventor, and why (and why not). Grateful to the firms, engineers and patent professionals, like Frances Gutierrez Winkler that shared their experiences and data, many careful commenters, and Lisa Larrimore Ouellette's Written Description blog and Rantanen, Jason and Dennis Crouch's PatentlyO for featuring posts about the piece today. Welcome your comments and suggestions! Paper: "Unpacking the Innovator-Inventor Gap: Evidence from Engineers" https://bit.ly/44ogwzO Diversity Pilots Initiative blog: https://lnkd.in/gNh4gqv9 Abstract: Using detailed administrative and survey data from engineers, we provide insights into the processes that lead to patent filing. We document these processes' opt-in, competitive nature, and how firm dynamics and demographics shape them. Only one-third of engineers submit ideas for patenting, and just half of these lead to patent applications. Women are significantly less involved at each stage of the journey from innovator to named inventor, contributing to a larger "innovator-inventor gap," which engineers perceive to be associated with ineffective management and culture. Analysis of citation patterns suggests that high-quality patents are lost in firms with larger gender gaps. Which IP professionals ascend to partnership or top counsel roles? Which professors publish in the top journals? And which innovators become inventors? This question of who among lawyers, academics, or innovators reaches the next milestone in the progression of a career is relevant in many settings. It has been a central focus in the world of innovation since USPTO’s Director Kathi Vidal’s urgent call to ensure that we “get everyone off the bench” in order to solve world problems and foster economic prosperity.

#recruiters, #talentacquisition - get a better grasp on #hbcu #recruitment by: 1 - Making a list of institutions that correspond with your industry and are geographically feasible; If you're located in Utah and the HBCU is in Florida, you better provide fantastic pay or factor in travel allowances 2 - Understanding why those institutions are leading producers of the talent you need; DO NOT keep running to Howard without knowledge of the curriculum and emerging programming 3 - Using articles like this for research; Note key campus leaders, departments to contact, and programmatic details #hbcus | #whynothbcus March 14, 2024
Achieving a record high for single-year patents awarded, Morgan State surpasses all HBCUs nationwide, with its Office of Technology Transfer driving a surge in patent applications and securing 13 patent awards in 2023, while also advancing research and expanding entrepreneurship opportunities #TheMorganWay. https://bit.ly/3wRZBJ8

I am so proud to see Qualcomm’s continued efforts to move the dial on diversity, inclusion, and equity in the field of innovation and IP. It’s simple: More inventors lead to more diverse and unique problems solved. We can all do our part to break down barriers and help more innovative thinkers patent their inventions, create jobs, boost the global economy, close wage and wealth gaps, and discover new ways to improve society as a whole. Check out this article Holly Fechner and I wrote in World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO to learn about The Inventor’s Patent Academy and how, together, we can make a difference in closing inventor diversity gaps. https://lnkd.in/gNQ9heWU

Ever heard the saying, "Great minds think alike"? It's fascinating to observe how two individuals, without any connection, can independently come up with the same or very similar inventions. This phenomenon is not just about shared genius; it reflects the parallel thinking that can emerge when brilliant minds work to solve similar problems under similar cultural and technological influences. In the world of innovation, this raises intriguing questions about the principles of patenting. Traditionally, jurisdictions have followed either the "first to file" or "first to invent" principles. The "first to file" system awards the patent to the individual who first files a patent application, regardless of the date of invention. The "first to invent" system awards the patent to the person who can prove they were first to invent, even if they file their patent application later. 🤔 In the age of global connectivity and rapid technological advancement, which system do you believe more effectively fosters innovation and why?** Let's discuss below! 👇 #Innovation #Patents #FirstToFile #FirstToInvent #IntellectualPropety

Boss, We are excited to announce the first-ever "Patent Your Invention: An Entrepreneur's Hackathon." The idea behind offering an 85% discount for students to attend is to democratize Intellectual Property awareness and encourage participation. The event schedule is as follows: December 28th: A full-day Patent Awareness and Drafting Session Followed by a review of drafted patents by a Patent Agent December 30th: The Award Ceremony This exciting initiative is proudly supported by RV University and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. It is probably the world's first session where, in just three days, an inventor can realize a provisional patent draft. We look forward to your support and participation in making this event a grand success. Best regards, Phani
