Not for the Shelf Ok, you got the vision statement, now what? Well, it isn’t for making a nice banner or great plaque to hang on the wall. It needs to be communicated. Those who come into your fellowship need to know what you plan to accomplish in the community. This vision is woven into the things that you do; from outreach events to Sunday morning services. When traveling with GPS, the system is alerting me what is coming up, when to prepare for the next turn and when I must turn in order to stay on course. A vision statement will do the same things; it helps us to keep focused and stay of course. Those who begin to attend should see the vision being modeled and lived out by those in leadership.

In the early 2000s I helped organize and moderate town hall meetings, in person and online. Results and reactions were often mixed. Engaging residents in solving urban problems can lead to better solutions, bolster public spirit, and deepen democracy. It can also disappoint, when expectations are misaligned, and interactions are unproductive. This new city leader guide offers research-based guidance on designing civic engagement efforts in cities. This is a great example of why it is critical to learn and develop leadership skills throughout life, even though you may not lead a team in your professional life. Every day we are faced with situations and challenges that require some level of leadership, whether it's at home with our family or at work with customers, clients, and teammates. Even more critical, is learning to lead and manage ourselves. We all face internal struggles at some point and learning to lead effectively can help us be more effective at managing them. After all, how can we expect to lead others if we can't even lead yourself?
President, Echelon Front | Co-Author of Extreme Ownership and The Dichotomy of Leadership | Student of Leadership
Every challenge you face in life is a leadership challenge. The most difficult—but also the most important—place to apply Extreme Ownership is at home. Great perspective from Echelon Front Chief Operating Officer Jamie Lynn Cochran.

Australians are losing faith in our top institutions, making it more important than ever to hold our leaders to account. Our aim is to keep #australianleadership in the spotlight by researching how the public thinks about these institutions and provoking a conversation about what leadership that genuinely serves the long-term public interest looks like. Here's something to keep you grounded today. We recently met up with Erin Kothari, the executive director of Oregon Futures Lab, to learn more about her organization’s work to cultivate BIPOC leadership, advance movements and weave self-care into our daily practice. "If we’re going to achieve a racially just Oregon, we need leaders who reflect our communities and are supported holistically in their roles. It’s not just about putting someone in a position — it’s about giving them the tools and community they need to thrive." Learn more about what drives Erin: https://lnkd.in/gW2GpCta

Leadership isn't easy! Leadership demands a balance of transparency, humility, and resilience. It's a role that necessitates a willingness to adapt one's thoughts and emotions for the collective good—be it the community, the project team, or our valued clients. The Engage Noble Leadership Academy is an exemplary program that fosters expansive thinking, facilitates insightful discussions on servant leadership, and underscores the significance of forging meaningful connections. I strongly encourage individuals in the area to participate in the next leadership series. The program offers a valuable experience, fostering professional growth and leadership skills.

Read our past report, Implementing Systemwide Changes in the CSU, authored by Thad Nodine and Robert Gabriner. This report found that the Academy served as a catalyst in helping campus teams address resistance and take advantage of opportunities for substantive change through leadership, communications, and networking. As a result, the Academy appears to be well positioned, with additional supports and resources, to facilitate and deepen campus efforts to address long-standing issues such as equity.
