Selling an A-Player on your role doesn’t always mean offering more compensation. There are other ways to offer value to the candidate, such as: - Upward mobility and career growth - Continuing education - Management development skills - Work-life balance - Company culture Figure out what’s important to the candidate and use it to sell them on your opportunity.

Every good job needs these 3 things for you to genuinely be happy at work: 1. You’re in a role that you are excited about and that uses skills you like to use 2. Manager who actually cares about you as a person and not another cog in the machine 3. And a team & workplace culture that you like being a part of. 3/3 is best. 2/3 is manageable. But if you have 1 or none of the 3, it’s impossible to love your work. Find those 3, find your ideal career.

One of the benefits of working for yourself is the freedom to make decisions based on what matters most to you. Recently, I was faced with a choice between two short-term contract positions in F&I. Both had similar commutes and comparable brands, but one offered full time, likely-permanent employment with great compensation while the other was a 6-week gig with similar pay and no long-term prospects. The deciding factor for me was the company culture. I make it a point to observe operations during visits, and Hillcrest VW stood out to me as a place with a positive and supportive culture. So for the next 6 weeks or so, that's where you'll find me. Remember, it's not always just about the numbers. Culture can make all the difference in job satisfaction and overall success.

📢 Career Insight: Team Culture Trumps Company Name Throughout my career, I've learned a valuable lesson: it's not the company logo on your email signature that defines your work experience—it's the team you work with every day. 🔑 Key takeaway: The culture defined by your immediate team matters more than the company you join. Why? • Your team shapes your daily interactions • They influence your growth and learning opportunities • Team dynamics impact your job satisfaction and stress levels • A great team can make challenging work enjoyable • A poor team culture can overshadow even the most prestigious company benefits Remember: ✅ Research the specific team/department during your job search ✅ Ask about team culture during interviews

Sales and recruitment leaders do you big up your people enough? Of course you incentivise them with money, holidays, days out, career progression. You motivate them with stories and anecdotes etc. But do you ever just walk up to them and tell them how f**king good they are at their job. Or maybe today (Friday) they've got their going out clobber on for a night out after work, how about just letting them know how well they scrub up (unless that’s some sort of HR faux pas these days 😂) Perhaps you heard a Trainee make a decent call, why not tell the whole office how good it was. Positivity is a game changer. Legendary coach John Harbaugh is the embodiment of positivity and his teams are better for it. If all leaders were just a little bit more like Jim, I think every work environment would be better for it.
