PVC Cables: Powering the Future Through Innovation With the theme "Market Development Through #Innovation," the 4th PVC4Cables Conference took place in Prague, Czech Republic, on Wednesday 16 October 2024. Organised by PVC4Cables, the 4th event dedicated to the #PVC #cables sector brought together around 150 representatives of industry, authorities, institutions and research institutes from 26 European and non-European countries. “Since the set-up of PVC4Cables and our first conference in 2017, we have been showing that the PVC cables industry is a fast-developing sector and it is continuing to innovate," said Magdalena Garczynska, Project Leader of PVC4Cables. "With over 30 studies published in the technical-scientific literature or presented at international events, we have demonstrated that it is possible to obtain increasingly high-performance formulations for PVC cables in technical and safety terms, but also in terms of environmental #sustainability. Ensuring the recyclability of #PVCcables, for example, is one of the key aspects of our activities." https://lnkd.in/d7neQa2D

Agri photovoltaic could supply five times more electricity than Switzerland needs. Agrivoltaics refers to the combination of agricultural production with electricity generation using photovoltaics. ZHAW researchers in Wädenswil have now determined the theoretical potential for electricity production with agrivoltaics in Switzerland: This amounts to more than 300 terawatt hours – and is therefore five times as large as Switzerland's current electricity requirements. This was determined as part of the EDGE project, which is funded by the SWEET "Swiss Energy research for the Energy Transition" programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.

We are pleased to announce that Electrified Thermal Solutions will be exhibiting at Decarb Connect UK, the UK’s leading industrial decarbonisation event. Save 25% on your ticket by using code ‘ETS25’ at checkout About Electrified Thermal Solutions Electrified Thermal Solutions, Inc. (ETS) is decarbonizing industry with new electric heating and storage technologies. ETS’s Joule Hive™ thermal battery turns intermittent renewable electricity into constant industrial-grade heat. It is a stack of electrically conductive firebricks in an insulated container, which may be installed on-site as a drop-in replacement to fossil fuels in even the hottest industries. The system charges by running electricity directly through the bricks to joule-heat them, circumventing the operating limits of today’s electric heaters. The same bricks store thermal energy up to 1800+oC with minimal thermal loss for hours or days until needed, ensuring the least cost electricity is used to power the system. Find out more about Electrified Thermal Solutions: https://hubs.li/Q02h0vkT0 Decarb Connect UK, taking place 27-29 February 2024 at the Lowry Hotel, Manchester, join 200+ attendees who will be engaging with the experts actively shaping industrial decarbonisation clusters, crafting comprehensive CO2 management business plans, spearheading plant-based initiatives and devising innovative funding mechanisms. Featuring insights from INEOS, Innovate UK, CEMEX Ventures, Clean Growth Fund, National Highways, BloombergNEF, Aggregate Industries UK, BASF and many more. AWARDS FINALIST: Methanex – Investing in new distillation technology to reduce emissions An upgrade of Methanex Corporation’s two distillation columns at its Motunui site will save up to 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year. The complex project, completed in late 2023, involved redesigning and replacing 88 distillation trays in the near 30-year-old columns to improve control of the flow of gas and liquid within them. The improved energy efficiency from the retrofit boosted the plant’s distillation capacity by 25 per cent, allowing Methanex to decommission its third distillation column at the Waitara Valley plant, thereby consolidating operations and further reducing emissions. Methanex says close collaboration among the project partners was key to its success. After extensive evaluation, detailed front-end engineering design began in February 2022. This report discusses the potential of green hydrogen to replace natural gas and reduce CO2 emissions, focusing on the development of a 1-GW green-hydrogen plant to be commissioned by 2030. The transition involves large-scale water-electrolysis plants powered by wind and solar energy, aligning with the European Union's goal of installing 40 GW of electrolyzer capacity by 2030. The report outlines ambitious targets for the Netherlands, aiming to build 3 to 4 GW of green-hydrogen plants by 2030. It introduces the Hydrohub GigaWatt-Scale Electrolyzer project, presenting an advanced design for a 1-GW plant using alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) and polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) water electrolysis. Anticipated total investment costs and potential cost reductions through innovations are discussed, emphasizing the urgency to scale up green hydrogen for industrial applications. The report concludes with technical specifications, cost breakdowns, and the importance of reducing investment costs to establish a competitive green-hydrogen market.

How much electricity does the #Wuppermann Group produce from #photovoltaic systems? Wuppermann has been generating electricity from photovoltaic systems at all five production sites and at the Group's headquarters in Leverkusen since October 2023. The installed nominal capacity is over 4,500 kWp and can thus cover approx. 5 per cent of the Group's annual electricity requirements. The output generated per month is stated on the Wuppermann website. For example, 474 MWh of electricity was generated in April and 1,302 MWh since the beginning of the year until mid-May.
