EED Advisory conducted a national off-grid and mini-grid market assessment of South Sudan, revealing that only 5.4% of South Sudanese have access to electricity. The research shows that 94.7% of households lack electricity, with only 1.8% connected to mini-grids, 0.03% using diesel generators, and 3.44% using off-grid technologies. Most (98.3%) rural households in #SouthSudan lack electricity, yet 1.72% have access through off-grid solar products. Approximately 70% of households in urban areas lack electricity, while 30% have access via micro and mini-grids (13.99%) and solar PV technologies (16.21%). The primary impediment to off-grid solar products in South Sudan is the high upfront cost, which is seen as a barrier by at least 70% of households in rural and urban areas. This barrier could be addressed by offering flexible payment options, with 54% of urban and 29% of rural households open to paying for solar solutions in instalments. However, off-grid solar companies in South Sudan only offered flexible payment options to a few known NGO employees to avoid the high payment default risk. Aptech Africa Advances Energy Access in Chad with Groundbreaking PV Minigrid ☀ 🔌 Project Overview: Aptech Africa Ltd has taken a significant step towards addressing energy poverty by installing a pioneering PV minigrid with a distribution line in Mandelia, Chad. This initiative aims to mitigate the severe energy shortage experienced by remote and underserved communities in sub-Saharan Africa, where access to reliable and clean electricity is limited. ⚡ Energy Access: Chad, like many other countries in the region, faces challenges in providing universal electricity access, often depending on costly and environmentally harmful diesel generators. This energy shortfall restricts economic opportunities and essential services such as healthcare, education, and communication. 🌞 Renewable Solution: Aptech Africa's solution involves a 78kWp solar PV minigrid system paired with a 324kWh battery bank storage. The system utilizes Ulica solar modules, Alpha ESS inverters, and Lithium-ion batteries, featuring remote monitoring through the Alpha ESS system for real-time data and efficient management. 🏡 Community Impact: One of the key features of the minigrid is its distribution line, extending electricity access to communities far from the main power grid. This installation is expected to benefit over 100 people, including local schools and medical facilities, serving as a model for similar projects across Chad and other regions facing energy challenges. Congratulations to Ghirmay Abraham, Laura Corcoran! #RenewableEnergy #EnergyAccess #Chad #Sustainability

Understanding Depth of Discharge in Solar Systems. Depth of Discharge (DoD) is a crucial metric for maintaining the longevity and efficiency of solar batteries. An 80% DoD means that you can use up to 80% of your battery's total capacity. For instance, if you have a 200 amp-hour battery, only 160 amp-hours are usable. This conservative usage ensures that the battery's lifespan is maximized, as deeper discharges can significantly reduce the number of cycles a battery can endure. Keeping the DoD within optimal limits is beneficial for solar systems as it balances usage and longevity. By not fully discharging the battery, you prevent excessive wear and tear, thus extending its operational life and ensuring consistent performance. This practice also helps maintain a stable energy supply, which is vital for solar-dependent households or businesses. For reliable and efficient solar solutions, trust ARC Solar Uganda. Choosing the Right Solar Panels for Your Home in Nigeria 🏡 As the demand for renewable energy continues to grow in Nigeria, selecting the best solar panels for your home is crucial for maximizing efficiency and savings. Here are some top considerations and recommendations: 1. Types of Solar Panels: - Monocrystalline Panels: Highly efficient and space-saving, they perform well in low-light conditions and have a longer lifespan, making them ideal for urban settings. - Polycrystalline Panels: More affordable than monocrystalline panels but slightly less efficient. They are a good option if you have ample roof space. 2. Top Solar Panel Brands: - Canadian Solar: Known for high efficiency and durability, ideal for residential use in varying climates. - JinkoSolar: Offers a great balance between cost and performance, with panels that perform well in Nigeria’s sunny climate. - Trina Solar: Highly rated for quality and reliability, with a wide range of products for different needs. 3. Considerations for Selection: - Efficiency Rating: Look for panels with efficiency ratings above 15% for optimal energy output. - Warranty and Lifespan: Choose panels with at least a 25-year warranty to ensure long-term investment. - Local Availability: Ensure that replacement parts and support are accessible within Nigeria to avoid future hassles.
