Did you know today is National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Day? PTSD is a mental health condition that affects about 1 in 15 American adults. A person may develop PTSD after experiencing or witnessing any traumatic event, which could include military combat, sexual or physical violence, natural disasters, or severe accidents. The term "post-traumatic stress disorder" became common in the 1980s, but the condition has been prevalent among military veterans for much longer, going by names like “soldier’s heart”, “shell shock”, and “war neurosis”. On June 27, 2010, the U.S. government created National PTSD Awareness Day in recognition of Staff Sergeant Joe Biel, a National Guard service member who experienced PTSD after two tours in Iraq and died by suicide in 2007. You can learn more about trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder by reading the following resource guide from our website: https://lnkd.in/gHNWpJG5 #PTSD #Trauma #PTSDAwarenessDay #PTSDsupport #PTSDrecovery #PTSDhope #PTSDeducation #TraumaAwareness

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a significant mental health issue affecting half of veterans and military personnel. It often arises from exposure to combat, life-threatening situations, or other traumatic events experienced during service. Symptoms can include flashbacks, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the trauma. Addressing PTSD is crucial for the well-being of veterans, requiring comprehensive support systems, access to mental health services, and community understanding. The Wounded Warrior Project offers PTSD mental health services and resources for veterans through interactive programs, workshops, and a broad range of other services. “Don’t be afraid to ask for help.” https://lnkd.in/geH9Erj5 www.clearpathomecare.com #PTSDawareness #VeteransMentalHealth #SupportOurVeterans #HealingHeroes #MilitaryPTSD #EndTheStigma #WarriorStrong #WoundedWarriorProject #ClearPathHomeCare

As a former first responder myself, I've faced the relentless trauma that many of us encounter daily. The memories of those moments used to haunt me, and dealing with Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) was a profound struggle. C-PTSD, unlike traditional PTSD, stems from prolonged exposure to traumatic events, and for first responders, this means a continuous battle with emotional regulation, negative self-perception, and strained relationships. Today, I stand here to thank God for bringing me out of that darkness. We must break the stigma around asking for help. It's okay to reach out. It's okay to seek support. You are not alone in this journey. Let's stand together and support each other on this path to healing. Remember, strength is not just in what we endure but in finding the courage to ask for help. #MentalHealthMatters #YouAreNotAlone #FirstResponders

Expert Guidelines for PTSD in Emergency Services “It is not surprising that emergency workers with PTSD may present in different ways. Individual emergency workers may have experienced a gradual buildup of distress and symptoms over a prolonged period of time, rather than a sudden onset of symptoms after one isolated event.” #PTSD #ptsddelayedonset #firstresponders #mentalhealth #ptsi

Veterans often face significant mental health challenges after their military service, impacting their transition to civilian life. Evaluating the extent of these mental and neurological impairments can be complex. That's why the VA uses the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Score to effectively assess mental disorders in veterans. What is a GAF Score, and Why is it Important? A GAF score is crucial for veterans seeking a VA rating for mental health conditions like PTSD. It helps clinicians determine the level of support needed, which might include frequent therapy sessions or ongoing medical treatment. Want to understand more about how the GAF score affects your veteran disability claims? Check out our blog post today 👇 https://buff.ly/3V0NTEn #militarytransition #mentalhealth #claims
