We are spotlighting some of the innovations and inspiring actions of the remarkable women who will be speaking at our conference. As climate change reshapes our world, providing education and and economic empowerment for women and girls, particularly in vulnerable communities, is vital. Did you know that that in the Maldives, local girls and women don't know how to swim? Zuna Aminath from the Maldives is making waves—literally—by training local women to become leaders in the ocean economy. Despite cultural barriers and the dominance of foreign workers in marine industries, Aminath’s Ocean Women initiative is creating jobs, fostering education, and breaking down superstitions. This isn’t just about swimming; it’s about reclaiming their waters and building a future where women are at the helm. In Pakistan, Qandeel Rehman is tackling the devastating impact of climate change on education. With 50% of adolescent girls out of school due to climate disruptions, Qandeel has pioneered a program that not only retains girls in school but also empowers them to lead. By training them to create and install solar panels, she’s ensuring they have the skills and opportunities to build a sustainable future for themselves and their communities. Leaders like Qandeel and Zuna are at the frontline of this critical issue. Join us tomorrow a 6pm online to learn more about their innovative programmes : https://lnkd.in/eUvKwmAM #RedefiningPhilanthropy #GWC2024 #WomenInClimate #ClimateJustice #ClimateAdaption #ClimateMitigation #GivingWomen

🌾 Honouring Lammas (Lughnasadh) while Acknowledging Earth Overshoot Day 🌾 We are in peak summer in the Northern Hemisphere, a time when our ancestors held the first harvest festival, Lammas or Lughnasadh. This fire festival was a deep honouring of the earth's #abundance. A time when we see the land has turned from green to gold. Today also marks #EarthOvershootDay, a jarring reminder that despite all our heroic efforts in sustainability, we are still consuming resources faster than the planet can regenerate. This date has moved in my lifetime from 25th December in 1971 to 1st August this year, showing the increasing ecological burden we are placing on future generations by running in deficit. It's also important to note that different countries have very different Earth Overshoot Days, reflecting the varying levels of consumption and sustainability around the world. Today of all days it is worth taking a moment in this high summer to pause, reflect, and commit to meaningful action for our planet🌟 Its why we are building Ostara, to create more opportunities that help us slow down, #reconnect, and #remember our deep kinship with all life. It is only from this place, we can start to #reimagine the radically different future we need. #MoveTheDate #Lammas #Lughnasadh #HarvestSeason #EarthOvershootDay #Sustainability #Community #Ostara #Festival

🌍 𝐖𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝... 𝐎𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐖𝐞? 🌍 Did you hear the buzz? Prajakta Koli just snagged the title of "Climate Influencer of the Year" at the NDTV Indian Of The Year awards! 🏆 Did you know that Prajakta was appointed as UNDP India's first Youth Climate Champion in 2022? 🌱 At 11,500 Feet, a ‘Climate Fast’ to Save the Melting Himalaya. 🏔️ Sonam Wangchuk has long worked to help people in India’s Ladakh region adapt to climate change. In an e360 interview, he explains why he fasted for 21 days to pressure the government to grant legal protections to the region’s fragile ecosystem and its life-giving glaciers. This is the new India, where a social media star gets an award by just doing nothing, and a real climate change activist doesn’t even get minimal media coverage even after 21 days of fasting in minus temperature. 😔 It's concerning how media attention often favors sensationalism over substantive activism. Sonam Wangchuk's dedicated efforts to address climate change deserve more recognition than they receive. It's crucial to highlight and support individuals like him who are actively working towards environmental preservation, rather than solely focusing on social media popularity. 🤔 Are you brave enough to agree?? Let's start a conversation about the real heroes fighting for our planet! 💬✊ #ClimateChange #EnvironmentalActivism #RealHeroes #NDTVIndianOfTheYear #PrajaktaKoli #YouthClimateChampion #ClimateAction #SustainableLiving #SonamWangchuk #ClimateFast #MediaCoverage #SocialMediaInfluence #ActivismMatters #SaveThePlanet #ClimateEmergency

Looking forward to participating in this panel and discussing how we can make cities more livable and sustainable. As cities face increasing challenges from climate change and urbanization, building resilient urban and city-regions, including peri-urban areas, is becoming more critical to build a sustainable urban future.
