Tarun Nagesh, QAGOMA’s Curatorial Manager of Asian and Pacific Art, was recently interviewed by Supporting Partner Brisbane Airport Corporation in the lead up to the Asia Pacific Triennial. Providing an overview of the exhibition, Tarun discussed must-see projects such as Haus Yuriyal’s working garden at QAG and Brett Graham’s soaring nine-metre totem in GOMA’s foyer. As the Gallery’s flagship exhibition, the Triennial is famous for celebrating the region’s social and cultural diversity. Tarun also noted that ‘for our travelling artists, Brisbane Airport is the very first place they see local art, which is so important.’ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gxBvrMGr 'The 11th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ is only in Brisbane, 30 Nov 2024 – 27 Apr 2025. New exhibition design by FACTORY! When does the past end and the present begin, and what exists in the in-between? The nature of time is often explored through the lens of both permanence and transience. How does the fluidity of memory, which is deeply subjective, shape the process of art-making? If there might be an aesthetic that expresses the complex relationship between loss, time, and solitude, how would it look like? What visual or conceptual elements would it involve? An Ode to Absence is an exhibition that explores these questions. By considering the notions of “lack” and “longing,” the exhibition delves into how these themes can articulate the nuances of temporal experience and the conceptual weight of absence. Featuring works drawn from private art collections, An Ode to Absence is an exercise of a curatorial methodology that seeks to create connections between seemingly disparate pieces to reveal underlying themes that might otherwise remain obscured. Through this process, the curatorial approach transforms individual pieces into a narrative that invites viewers to contemplate the time as an interplay between presence and absence, and the dimensions of the ephemeral and the enduring. Curated by Michelle Ho Exhibition opens from 23/9 till 22/11/24 ADM Gallery, 81 Nanyang Drive, Singapore 637458 Monday - Friday, 10-5pm, Saturday open by appointments. Closed on Sunday, Public Holidays and term breaks.

In all my days as a travel writer, I've never seen anything more architecturally stunning than Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. It was positively mesmerizing. Even more impressive? The art itself. You name an iconic American artist and they're likely represented inside these hallowed halls. Read more in my latest My Fave Places travel blog. #travel #business

As we are currently attending and presenting at the the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MUSEUM FACILITY ADMINSTRATORS (IAMFA) Conference this week, we are sharing some notable museum projects. At Marx|Okubo, we appreciate that we have the opportunity to work on so many unique projects that require specific needs and approaches to achieve success. Our firm understands the value that creative and event spaces such as museums bring to cultural communities—and the built environment. One such project our firm worked on is the Art Institute of Chicago, founded in 1879, one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States. This museum is renowned for its impressive collection that spans centuries and cultures. It houses iconic works such as Grant Wood's "American Gothic" and Georges Seurat's "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte," offering visitors a journey through art history. Additionally, its modern wing, designed by the acclaimed architect Renzo Piano, provides a stunning space for contemporary artworks. The museum’s commitment to education and community engagement, coupled with its world-class exhibitions, makes it a cultural treasure that continually inspires and educates the public. We conducted a facilities condition assessment in order to strategically plan for major repairs, upgrades, and necessary replacements of the building systems and components in a logical and efficient manner over the next 10 years. The goal of developing a capital expenditure budget was to enable The AIC to address major future capital outlays to ensure that the museum’s energy and resources can be primarily dedicated to its core mission. >> Read more at the link in post. https://lnkd.in/gQy-AqwG #marxokubo #museums #artinstituteofchicago #realestate #construction

Scotland's first fully digital museum. The scheme will see the Leith Custom House in Edinburgh, previously used as a store for the National Museum of Scotland, turned into a hybrid cultural space. There will be community-creative studios, commercial and retail opportunities, and the fully digital gallery spaces on the first floor. The galleries will display both community-created artworks and historical items from Leith's archives. This sounds like an exciting initiative and mixed-use spaces definitely helps so many cultural spaces adapt and survive. Digital re-imagining and presenting of archive materials can help audiences enjoy the materials in new, exciting and more accessible ways, and there are many materials that lend themselves to multimedia displays. There is still something though, in relation to the historical items from the archive, about the intangible power of seeing the actual object yourself as a visitor that is the USP of museums. It will be interesting and exciting to see how these plans develop. https://lnkd.in/eX_jgsVk

Coming soon! Umibaizurah Mahir@Ismail in “Remote” - A compelling three-artist theme exhibition that invites visitors to explore diverse visualizations and interpretations of the concept of remoteness. Each artist will present a unique perspective through an array of drawings, paintings, and sculptures, creating a multifaceted dialogue around the theme. The term “remote” commonly describes something that is situated at a distance, either physically or metaphorically. This exhibition delves into the multiple dimensions of remoteness, offering varied artistic expressions that engage with the theme in profound ways. Through their works, the artists will interpret “remote” in contexts that range from geographical isolation to emotional detachment, technological mediation, and beyond. In the context of nature, “remote” typically refers to locations that are far removed from densely populated areas or urban centers. These places are often characterized by their untouched beauty and tranquility, providing a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of city life. The sense of peace and unspoiled wilderness found in remote natural areas underscores their separation from human activity and development. This isolation preserves their pristine landscapes and ecosystems, which are cherished for their inherent calm and natural beauty. This exhibition will explore these varied interpretations, encouraging viewers to reflect on the multifaceted nature of remoteness. Whether through the serene depiction of secluded natural landscapes, the abstract representation of emotional distances, or the critical examination of our increasingly virtual existence, the artists will challenge us to reconsider our relationships with space, place, and connectivity. Each artwork will serve as a lens through which the audience can contemplate the nuanced implications of living in a world where the concept of “remote” is continually evolving. #artadvisory #artfund #modernart #contemporaryart #asiacontemporaryart #visualart #collectibles #artcollector #artmuseum #curatedexhibition #sgart #sgartcollectors #artseasonsgallery Theresa T.

Is this what a more collaborative, community-centered art market could look like? The initiative from galleries Bortolami Gallery, James Cohan Gallery, kaufmann repetto, Anton Kern Gallery, Andrew Kreps Gallery, and kurimanzutto aims to create a shared space for group exhibitions and cultural activities, with the inaugural exhibition to feature works by 80 artists. The way we see it, the joint venture signals a welcome shift towards collaboration and community-building within the art market. The initiative not only breathes new life into a neglected space but also fosters a sense of creative and professional synergy among participating galleries, their staffs, and artists. More of that, please. But, we can't pretend it's all sunshine and rainbows. Amid an art, design, and vacation home boom in the Hudson area, we're curious what steps the galleries might take to ensure the community benefits too, considering the "The Campus'" potential impact on the area's cultural and economic landscape. What do you think?

In the intricate realm where fibres and threads are woven together, carpets and rugs emerge not just as functional objects but as masterpieces of craftsmanship. They stand as silent storytellers, whispering tales of mystical realms and transcendent paradises. Read my latest for identity below:
