BREAKING! According to sources that chose to remain anonymous, on April 1st there will be a major announcement regarding "Aerodromo Mexiquense Doctor Jorge Jiménez Cantú" (AZP), located in Atizapán de Zaragoza on the outskirts of Mexico City. It is expected this geographically-challenged, little-known airfield will be rebuilt into a thriving commercial airport, thanks to ground-breaking technology applied -and also funded- elsewhere by military engineers. If the above information is accurate, AZP is destined to become the fourth airport within the greater Mexico City metropolitan area, comprised today of MEX, NLU and TLC. While details are still sketchy, rumor is the airport will be developed as a regional airline passenger and cargo hub to capture NLU's traffic spill, in an effort to avoid the total extinction of this local aviation industry's pivotal sector in the largest consumer market in the country. Last week Europe Air Sports held its technical meeting in Speyer. Representatives from the member European Flight Associations and National Aeroclubs were in attendance at the meeting, along with esteemed guests from EASA and ENAV. Some of the key topics that were addressed included electronic conspicuity, ADS-L, the fragmentation of nature protection restrictions, U-space, medical declarations to replace physical examinations, and others. I delivered a presentation on the topic of restricted airspace inadvertently encroaching upon sensitive mountainous regions.

Optimized total operational cost, versatility of missions and appealing design are key benefits seen by current and potential new clients.
