Are you familiar with the guidelines for the ethical use of AI in scientific research? This was a key topic in our second ReproducibiliTea Journal Club session, where we explored Zafer Kocak's “Publication Ethics in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” discussing how AI should—and actually does—impact scientific research. Key discussion points included: - What are the risks and benefits of AI in research? - Is accelerating science with AI necessarily a good thing? - What are the unethical uses of AI? - What guidelines are in place to ensure responsible AI use? An interesting takeaway was how our group varied in their views on AI's role in their work—some felt optimistic, while others were more hesitant. How do you feel about the use of AI in research? If you’d like to explore this topic further, you can find a link to the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME)’s recommendations on the responsible use of AI in research in the comments below. Thank you to everyone who joined us! We look forward to continuing the conversation at our next meeting on November 13th, where we’ll discuss Albino et al.'s "Preventing bad behavior in academia" (link in the comments below). #ReproducibiliTea #Reproducibility #OpenScience #Collaboration #Innovation

**Navigating AI in Human Research: Ethical Considerations and Innovations** The Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) recently hosted a pivotal workshop exploring the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the sphere of human research. The event, titled “The Evolving Landscape of Human Research with AI – Putting Ethics to Practice,” delved into the multifaceted applications of AI in research involving human subjects. This dialogue is essential as AI technologies become increasingly intertwined with scientific exploration, offering new possibilities and challenges. Participants at the workshop examined not only the innovations AI brings to research but also the critical legal and ethical questions it poses. Central topics of discussion included privacy concerns, consent, and the potential biases embedded within AI systems. These conversations are crucial for shaping policies that ensure AI is harnessed responsibly and ethically in research settings. As AI continues to revolutionize research methodologies, how can researchers and organizations address the ethical challenges while maximizing the benefits? Join the conversation and share your thoughts on balancing innovation with ethical considerations. #AIResearch #HumanSubjects #EthicsInAI #Innovation #AIInResearch #ResearchEthics For more information, visit [Department of Health and Human Services](https://www.hhs.gov/).

https://lnkd.in/gUxzqUwH The truth about Artificial Intelligence ( AI) – garbage in, garbage out First made available online on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation ( ABC) Radio National's "Future Tense" on Friday, 7 June, 2024. AI isn't magic, but many of us are accustomed to thinking and talking about it as if it was. It can't solve every problem and its application can sometimes make matters worse. To make the most of Artificial Intelligence we should follow the dictum often used by data scientists – garbage in, garbage out. In other words, AI is only as good as the person who deploys it. In this episode we explore several cautionary examples. Guests Dr Guillaume Desjardins – Associate Professor, Industrial Relations, Université du Québec en Outaouais Dr Magdalena Soffia – Lead author, Workplace AI study, Institute for Work, UK Virginie Simoneau-Gillbert – Researcher, Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, University of Oxford Dr Wellett Potter – Lecturer in Law, University of New England Further information Briefing Paper: What impact does exposure to workplace technologies have on workers' quality of life? - IFOW (The link to the article is : https://lnkd.in/gM_RNabE The Dangers of AI farming (animals) Link: https://lnkd.in/gh8E5aFj Further information Future Tense (on organisational stupidity) - Is dumbness our destiny?
