I'm happy to share that the latest Widening Teaming call for proposals under Horizon Europe is now open. This initiative is close to my heart, as it has the potential to create a significant impact on the research landscape in Widening countries. Through Teaming actions we aim to establish new, or modernise existing, centres of excellence in these countries by fostering strategic partnerships with leading institutions abroad. Our goal is to boost research output and innovation, ultimately contributing to a more harmonised and vibrant European research ecosystem. I'm particularly passionate about the Widening participation and spreading excellence component of Horizon Europe, as it seeks to address the disparities in research systems across Europe. By supporting countries with less developed research systems, we can unlock their full potential and create new opportunities for collaboration and growth. The total budget for this call is an impressive €270 million, and I encourage all eligible organisations to submit their first-stage proposals by 10 April 2025. Don't miss this chance to be part of this exciting initiative and contribute to shaping the future of European research! On Friday, we sent the Chair of the expert group on the interim evaluation of Horizon Europe, Manuel Heitor, a position paper on the next EU framework programme for research and innovation. As outlined by the Council of the EU in its Conclusions on the New European Innovation Agenda, the paper recognises the vital role Eureka plays in the European innovation ecosystem, providing well-targeted support to European companies in accessing global markets. It also strongly advocates for: 🔵Increasing the tenth framework programme's relevance and reach, further strengthening innovation capacity within industry, and particularly among SMEs 🔵Encouraging widening country participation in collaborative projects 🔵Supporting the internationalisation of SMEs and large companies’ R&D and innovation activities to improve their competitiveness 🔵Enhancing synergies in the European innovation ecosystem 👉Eureka and the European Partnership on Innovative SMEs is well-suited to addressing these challenges thanks to its focus on encouraging the internationalisation of European companies through innovative projects, and its horizontal structure that makes it easy and flexible for countries with limited resources to participate. We hope to inspire the expert group in their efforts to strengthen the European innovation ecosystem, recognising Eureka as one of its vital players. Lecture theatre vs conference room. Relaxed, free-flowing conversations vs serious, interpreted discussions. Two great days overall! Yesterday, I was at the University of #Birmingham to talk to researchers/entrepreneurs about Cluster 4: Industry calls as part of the Horizon Europe Insight Day organised by Innovate UK and the UK Government's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. Today, I attended the 15th Horizon Europe Cluster 4 Programme Committee Meeting at CCAB #Brussels, organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. An acquaintance who got in touch with me today after a decade or so wanted to know more about my role. During my previous interaction with an immigration officer, they jokingly nudged me to rate my job on a scale of 0 to -10! But what is it that I do, you wonder? NCPs (like yours truly) enjoy the good fortune of meeting participants one day and policy makers the other. Tactically facilitating uptake and strategically formulating work programmes keeps us busy. We consider dissemination and deliberation equally important to making research and innovation attractive to our stakeholder community - which may also include you! Are you based in the #UK? Does research/innovation with international partners excite you? If #HorizonEurope is already on your radar, or there are reasons why you would like for it to be, please get in touch with your NCPs to find out more about relevant open/upcoming calls: https://lnkd.in/eyPk3kCj #HorizonEU #research #innovation #industry #manufacturing #materials #minerals #InnovateUK #UKRI
