Last week, Ascendance hosted the Propulsion & Embedded Energy Excellence Ecosystem (E2PEE) working group which has the mission to drive aerospace industry's focus on energy challenges in a context of climate change. This group E2PEE is part of Aerospace Valley and has Stephane Viala as President. This visit was the opportunity for the group to discover Ascendance premises with its flight simulator and scale-one benches to illustrate our innovations. It inspired the group to discuss the challenges around electrification, hybrid propulsion, SAF, Hydrogène and define the 2024 roadmap. We’ve successfully ignited our VDR2 engine, marking the first Rocket-Based Combined Cycle test and enabling a single engine solution from Mach 0 to Mach 6. Developed in collaboration with Velontra, this groundbreaking engine combines RDRE thrust with Ramjet efficiency, achieving the first-ever Ramjet start at takeoff speed. Next up: Ground tests of VDR2 Block 0, the simplest engine to reach Mach 4+, with flight trials set for 2025.
