Yesterday DeepL announced that we have raised an additional $300M in a funding round led by Index Ventures, which raises our valuation to $2 Billion. To quote our CEO: “We’re approaching an inflection point in the AI boom where businesses who are racing to adopt the technology begin to discern between hype versus solutions that are secure and actually solve real problems in their business,” I'm super excited to be a part of the journey and to see this point play out over the next years. https://lnkd.in/eSfU2DAb

TechBBQ has officially commenced! First panel of the day talking about if AI will cause job loss in venture 🤔✨🚀 Today is the Nordic Investor Day of the conference & I shared the stage with some heavy hitters who shared such interesting insights on the future of AI in our industry: jager mcconnell, ceo of Crunchbase Andre de Haes, founder of BACKED VC Joe Perkins, founder of Landscape I spoke about my role as an Analyst/Associate in growth equity and venture (sending 100+ cold emails a week in my first role), and what in theory can be replaced by AI vs. what will always need a human touch. We were all in agreement about the human nature that will always be important for relationship building & earning a spot in founders’ corners, but that in due time, AI can replace a bunch of tasks junior investors do on a daily basis as data-driven sourcing tools (ie: Harmonic) and ChatGPT get better over time. Crunchbase & Landscape are both rolling out tools and functionality to help VCs be more data-driven and forward looking, and Backed is also doing really interesting things with data they collect from portfolio companies to create AI-generated reports and benchmarking. When AI begins to impact and influence our decision making as investors, that’s when things really kick up a notch. So what do you think… Will AI cause job loss in venture? Will we see completely autonomous funds pop up in the near future? Thanks so much to the TechBBQ team for organizing (esp. Michael Bak, Andreas Munk Holm, Ruxandra Trofin, Kay Michelsen), and I’ve got a keynote + panel tomorrow as well… so stay tuned for more updates here in Copenhagen :) #techbbq #nordics #investor #venturecapital #vc #publicspeaking #conference #tech #ai #artificialintelligence

Yesterday was a BIG day for Nory—we announced the close of our $16M Series A round led by Accel 🚀 This news roughly marks my 6-month milestone at Nory, which has also been my first adventure into startup life. It's been exhilarating, full of learning, and at times a little stressful 😂 During this time, I've been fortunate enough to build relationships and learn a lot from our incredible team internally, as well as from the restaurant operators using Nory. Here are some insights I’ve gained: 👉 Innovation drives success: constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible keeps us ahead. 👉 Running a profitable restaurant is truly tough: the people working in hospitality are there out of a love for both people and food. 👉 Our customers love Nory: this is evident from the 400% revenue growth we saw last year. 👉 Bureaucracy can kill creativity: thankfully, that's not an issue at Nory, where we are encouraged to get creative, test new ideas, and be BOLD. 👉 As cheesy as it sounds: teamwork makes the dream work: The passion, creativity, and drive of the Nory team are unparalleled. 🧠💪 👉 There are 48 hours in Conor Sheridan's day 😂 (how does he manage it otherwise)? The excitement around this funding round is real, as it will allow us to accelerate our innovations even further—and have an even greater impact on restaurant operators. It's been incredibly rewarding working on this with Giulia Gagliardi & Pablo Sánchez—and I couldn't be more excited for what's to come for Nory and our marketing team as we look to share Nory's story with the world. 🚀 #Nory #SeriesA #StartupLife #RestaurantTech #Innovation

Huge core point that in AI it's easy to raise but daunting to sustain, and I totally agree that it's about the relationships and client-led product development. The LLM tech is already amazing and growing, so the value-opportunity is everywhere -- there's just so much work to be done in bringing it to non-tech companies and immediately making it useful for them. I think there's a huge tech gap in all production I see, and Gen Z is the best suited for this learning and adapting to bridging the 99% of companies forward
I had a great time last weekend moderating the Gen Z meets Gen AI panel for Asian Founders Club, featuring AI enterprise SaaS founders Rushabh Mehta of Pontus and Saumya Rawat of Pharmesol. Even though AI is one of the easiest industries to raise money from, it's extremely difficult to stay in the game because we’re in such a technically nascent space. Like every other hype cycle, I believe there will be very few winners and that we'll see a wide-scale rollup of AI startups - which is why I wanted chat with founders who have already seen substantial traction, despite being only 2-3 years out of college. Here are the standout takeaways from the session: 1. In the world of B2B enterprise sales, relationships are key, but as Gen Z founders, we don’t have the 10, 20 years of industry connections. Both founders emphasized how they’ve had to hustle for introductions and push through long sales cycles to build credibility from scratch. Putting yourself out there is absolutely necessary to break in, and that’s especially important if you’re in older, highly regulated industries such as healthcare and finance. 2. What truly sets successful AI companies apart? While many companies use AI as a buzzword, the truth is the vast majority of companies are nowhere near 100% of the way there. The real differentiator is delivering solutions that actually solve pain points to the 99th percentile of accuracy and reliability. Both founders shared that their biggest wins came from proving the value of their technology by solving actual problems, not just selling hype. Thank you to ACE NextGen for including us in your conference, and I can't wait to host more panels like this! If you're a young founder & would like to join AFC, I've included a link to apply in the comments below. #founder #nyc #aapi #ai
