Polished concrete does well to resist wear from foot and wheeled traffic. Against cleaning chemicals and other reactive liquids it usually doesn’t do so well. This is because a polished concrete slab is not much different than natural stone. Mix design and polish process variations may improve a slab’s resilience, but it’s still a porous and reactive surface. The video documents a polished slab being prepared for and coated with a high-performance urethane. The majority of the living space was polished. The bathroom floor, which the owner prefer to look the same as the rest, was modified to withstand cleaning chemicals. The clear primer and urethane left the floor a little darker than the polish, but that’s better than a floor prone to etching. 🇺🇸💪🏼🇺🇸💪🏼🇺🇸 #SURFACEPREPARATION #GRINDANDSEAL

Avoiding Vinyl Click Flooring Failures: The Importance of Expansion Gaps One common reason vinyl click flooring fails is the lack of proper space for expansion. Floating floors naturally expand and contract with changes in temperature and moisture. To prevent issues, it's essential to leave a 1/4" gap around all walls to allow for movement. This gap can easily be concealed with base molding. Also, ensure the wall base isn’t pressing against the flooring, so it has room to expand as needed. #FlooringTips #VinylFlooring #HomeImprovement #FlooringInstallation #Construction #InteriorDesign

This video captures the process behind the installation of our Elements Stain Series tongue and groove ceiling. On one side, ESS in the Cayman Brac color is fully installed. On the other side, you can see the installation in progress, where PVC strips are secured with tapcons into the concrete decking. For areas with electrical and plumbing, framing is covered with Advantech plywood before the tongue and groove is glued and nailed, ensuring a seamless blend across the ceiling. One of the most distinctive aspects of the Elements Stain Series is that no two boards are identical. Each piece is hand-finished, creating subtle variations within a unified color palette. This process results in an authentic, natural wood appearance with the durability of synthetic materials. #tongueandgroove #carpentry #customhomes #homeconstruction #architecturaldesign #buildingmaterials #millwork #exteriordesign #exteriors #architects_need #buildingmaterials

Screed flooring is a vital stage in construction that requires precision and special attention. In this process, a layer of mortar or concrete is laid over the subfloor to create a smooth and durable surface. This task is essential for enhancing construction quality and increasing the lifespan of the building. One of the advantages of screed flooring is the reduction of maintenance and repair costs in the long term. Additionally, this type of flooring can serve as a base for various floor coverings such as tiles, wood, or laminate. Moreover, screed can also provide good acoustic and thermal insulation, especially when combined with suitable materials. To achieve the best results, the use of proper techniques and quality materials is crucial. Don't forget that collaborating with skilled professionals and contractors can significantly support the final quality of the work. So, with attention to detail, transform your interior space into a pleasant and beautiful environment! #screedpump #screedflooring #construction #civilengineering #screeding #flooring

Wall keying Finish Wall keying is a crucial step in wall finishing, designed to create a textured surface that enhances the adhesion of plaster, paint, or other finishes. This process involves applying a base layer of plaster or cement, then roughening it with tools like notched trowels or brushes to create grooves or ridges. These grooves act as a "key," allowing subsequent layers to bond securely to the wall. Keying prevents issues like peeling or cracking, ensuring a durable, long-lasting finish. Widely used in both traditional and modern construction, wall keying improves surface quality and the overall appearance of wall finishes. #finishes #Construction #plaster #civilengineering #structuralengineering #Rendering

Waterproofing Considerations for Balconies and Decks Substrate Preparation Proper substrate preparation is crucial for effective waterproofing. The substrate should be clean, dry, and free of any debris or contaminants that could compromise the waterproofing membrane's adhesion. Surface irregularities should be smoothed out, and any cracks or voids should be repaired before applying the waterproofing system. Selection of Waterproofing Membrane The choice of waterproofing membrane depends on various factors, including the type of deck or balcony, the expected level of foot traffic, and the desired aesthetic. Common options include liquid-applied membranes, sheet membranes, and peel-and-stick membranes. The membrane should be compatible with the substrate and provide sufficient protection against water infiltration. Proper Installation and Maintenance Waterproofing membranes should be installed according to manufacturer specifications to ensure maximum effectiveness. Proper detailing around penetrations, edges, and transitions is essential to prevent water ingress. Regular maintenance, such as inspecting for damage and resealing as needed, can help prolong the life of the waterproofing system and prevent costly repairs.
