Microsoft is going to have a very hard time convincing PC Gamers to go for Microsoft Surface laptops with Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM SoCs. Prism emulation (ARM emulating x86) may work for 2D apps. but I highly doubt that PC gamers who are aware of framerate want to run anything in emulation other than old school classic console games. The reality is that according to the May 2024 Steam surveys: Windows 96.21% Mac 1.47% Linux 2.32% Steam: https://lnkd.in/gXxC7zBh Now that 96.21% is entirely x86 Windows. ARM Windows doing x86 in emulation has about as much chance of making an impact on Steam as the Mac M series has of making a comeback on Steam. PC Gaming has left Mac behind. It has also left Linux behind. And it will never go ARM for the same reason it hasn't gone Mac or Linux. Even Mac gamers at this stage play games on Steam via Windows partitions. The reality is that between CoPilot Plus with Recall and ARM with Prism emulation, Surface laptops area curio for non-gamers. But hey we already knerw that. Microsoft Surface laptops have never achieved more than 2.1% of the PC market. So the reality is that Surface is a micro niche. Macs are less than 10% of the PC market to the 2% of Surface. PC Gaming will continue without both into a 3D future. CNBC: Surfaces just aren’t as popular as other computers. The work includes CPU optimization, enhanced graphics features, and local co-op, improving from 106 fps to 314 fps by launch. Qualcomm Snapdragon X is good, but...don't buy it for PC games. Yes, even if you play that one game that's really old and should be easy to handle. There's still a lot of work to do on that end in compatibility, stability, and performance. I suppose you could just stream games, but given the pricing of Copilot+ PCs that feels less than ideal.
