I had the privilege of working for Ron Hagelman and Barry Fisher on two separate occasions, each marking significant milestones in my professional journey. The first endeavor involved building a boutique group and multi-life long-term care insurance IMO, Long Term Care Insurance Leaders Coalition. Our collective efforts, guided by Ron and Barry's exceptional leadership, transformed this initiative into an IMO comprising 23 BGAs across the United States, with an impressive total of approximately 60,000 writing agents. Despite the challenges we faced, our perseverance and teamwork led us to success. The second opportunity arose during my time at Ice Floe Consulting, where we collaborated with Genworth and their UK insurance partner on a crucial proof of concept. In essence, we explored the feasibility of introducing a long-term care annuity product into the US market, inspired by a similar offering in the UK tailored for affluent individuals requiring long-term care services. This innovative approach, previously unseen in the US, required meticulous testing and validation. Under Ron and Barry's expert guidance, we demonstrated its viability, paving the way for its introduction in the US market. Our journey at both the Coalition and Ice Floe Consulting presented challenges at times, but our ultimate success validated our efforts. Ron and Barry's approach to accomplishing tasks and achieving goals was far from the traditional "good cop bad cop" dynamic often seen in professional settings. Instead, their method can be best described as Ron embodying the essence of the KJV and Barry representing the NIV of long-term care. Ron's style, akin to the KJV, was marked by a depth of knowledge and a traditional approach rooted in tried-and-tested methods. He brought a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, much like the timeless and authoritative nature of the KJV Bible. Ron's insights were thorough, detailed, and grounded in established principles, making him a reliable source of wisdom and guidance. On the other hand, Barry's approach mirrored the NIV, characterized by practicality, adaptability, and accessibility. Much like the NIV Bible's clear and modern language, Barry's communication style was straightforward, relatable, and easily understandable. He had a knack for simplifying complex concepts, finding innovative solutions, and navigating dynamic challenges with agility. Together, Ron and Barry formed a formidable team, each bringing their unique strengths to the table. Their collaborative efforts were not about conflicting personalities but rather about complementing each other's strengths to drive success. This balanced and harmonious approach ensured that their strategies were not only effective but also resonated well with diverse audiences, making them a dynamic duo in the realm of long-term care and insurance. I am honored to read about Ron’s recognition at the ILTCI and Barry was there to accept it on his behalf. Barry Fisher
I was honored to accept Ron Hagelman’s ILTCI Recognition Award on Monday. No one I know is more deserving . #protectingwhatmatters
