Agency Search Consultants: should they advise clients on what they need or simply fulfill what they ask for? Or is it a little of both? When looking for a consultant I advise clients to seek a partner that is sophisticated enough to be able to help you with what you need which is truly related to your ultimate business goals and the agency work product that will get you there—and less about the process and the direct client service requests with the assumption that it will be taken care of with a good partner. This also brings up the challenge that many of the consultant relationships are initiated and managed through lower level marketers and procurement. A lazy consultant will stick to process and services and not get close to work product which is often not assessed properly in a spec pitch presentation—how well do you understand the agency’s past work and its application has to go beyond ‘they have done this before’. The good ones understand the nature of the agency and what is a likely end product by having an intimate understanding of the firm and by using the right tools to assess, and present it to the client. Then a more successful match can occur which focuses on what you need and less on simply what you are asking for. With this in mind, consultant and agency will be focused on a work product that achieves your business goals. Advice: ask the agencies which consultant they like. That view is critical if you want them to put in the efforts required to truly evaluate them properly. Lisa/AAR does a great job. #creativitymatters

I've got a credit union board of directors presentation coming up, and, in doing some reading about the CU, came across this statement in the "About Us" section of its website: "Legend has it the credit union’s money was first kept in a cigar box." My first reaction: "Yeah, you and every other credit union out there." So I Googled "credit union money kept in a cigar box" and, sure enough, there were links to six credit unions who tell the same story. And that was only the first page of the search results. I didn't go to the second page because, well....nobody goes to the 2nd page of search results. Personally, I think credit unions (and banks, for that matter) should tell their members (and customers): "And we STILL keep your money in a cigar box because cyber criminals can't get to it. We know how to keep out the physical robbers. It's the cyber crooks we have no idea how to stop."
