🎉 On this Giving Tuesday we extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary for their incredible $150,000 leadership gift to kickstart our Friends for Life Campaign. This generous contribution represents 10% of the $1.5 million goal to replace advanced equipment for Urology Services that supports more than 700 life-changing surgeries each year, including procedures for kidney stones, bladder cancer, and prostate disease. Help us keep the momentum going – donate online or in-person at the QEH Foundation office to ensure you receive your 2024 tax receipt before year-end. With the postal strike affecting mail delivery, online, phone call, or in-person donations are the best way to avoid delays! Every gift makes a difference. Together, we can keep urology care close to home for Islanders. 🧡 https://lnkd.in/gK2kD4sJ

As Canada’s most diverse and fast-growing producer of medical and industrial isotopes, Laurentis has a deep-rooted commitment to improving health care around the world. That commitment is strengthened when we can support local hospitals and patients in need. Through our Powering the Future Fund, Laurentis donated $10,000 to the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre at Lakeridge Health Oshawa to help purchase much-needed medical equipment to improve cancer patients' care. The donation will go towards the purchase of a breast board and neck rest for Lakeridge Health’s Oshawa Hospital. Positioning devices like these are used in radiation therapy to improve accuracy in delivering radiation to the tumor site, enhance patient comfort, and reduce the risk of complications. We're grateful for the incredible care provided and innovations being made at Lakeridge Health and are proud to support patients in one of our local communities. Laurentis's Powering the Future Fund is founded on four pillars - health care, reconciliation, education, and community - and aims to increase our company’s impact on the communities in which we operate through charitable donations, to support leading a cleaner and healthier future for the next generation. #PoweringTheFuture #HealthcareInnovation #LakeridgeHealth

As we approach NF2 Awareness Day on May 22, it’s heartwarming to see the efforts to raise awareness and support research for this condition. Real people affected by NF2 are sharing their journeys, shedding light on the challenges they face, and inspiring hope for better understanding and treatments. These personal stories serve as powerful reminders of resilience, courage, and the importance of community. By sharing their experiences, these individuals contribute to a collective effort to improve the lives of NF2 patients and their families. Today we meet Hermienke she explains to us how her childhood seemed very abnormal with a diagnosis so young, but she is a great fighter to our cause, raising awareness matters dearly to her and she is a fabulous advocate. “ I had my first MRI when I was 12. At 13 my first vestibular schwannoma was radiated, and at 18 the other, along with radiation to a tumour on my brainstem and two surgeries to remove a tumour from my lumbar spine. I have a radiated tumour on my trigeminal nerve and last year I had four surgeries relating to vocal cord paralysis. I spent two weeks barely breathing through a hole in my neck and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. NF2, is a lifelong genetic condition, that weaves itself into the fabric of existence, unyielding and unrelenting. There is no middle or ending to any of our stories. Surgery, radiosurgery, and chemotherapy—are the only options we have. Yet, they come at a cost. Their impact reverberates through the delicate pathways of nerves, often leaving behind scars of lost function. NF2 is for life, an unwavering companion. There is no cure, no magic wand to erase its presence. Instead, there is resilience, determination, and a shared journey among those who navigate its complexities Please consider donating to research, sharing your story & raising awareness. You can donate here to our research https://lnkd.in/euWUGuTS #endNF2 #NF2awareness #NF2Schwannomatosis #schwannomatosis #NF2support #nf2 #nf2family #nf2warrior #LetstalkNF2 #nf2charity #nf2cure

April is National Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month. To learn more: cancer.org.
Fortune 500 CISO, Experienced C-Suite Executive, Board Member, Industry Speaker & Thought Leader, Advisory Board Member, Mentor
㋃ #April has been declared as #NationalCancerPrevention and #EarlyDetection Month. 👯♂️ Yes, I was an aerobics instructor in the 80s and 90s 😁. As a college student at Ottawa University who barely spoke English, the only way I knew to give back to society was to teach dance aerobics to raise money and awareness. I chose the American Cancer Society as the charity. Decades later in 2023, I attended an Athena Alliance salon with Karen Knudsen MBA PhD, #CEO of American Cancer Society, and it prompted me to look for the article that my late father had saved and laminated. My mother kept it well. We raised a whopping $800 in 1991, held a continuous 75 minutes dancing and aerobics, and it was the news of the town of 10,000 people in Ottawa, KS 👏 According to the American Cancer Society's Cancer Facts & Figures report, nearly 42% of all cancers are preventable. This month, I encourage you to learn more about prevention and screening at cancer.org. 😅 The athleisure has not changed much since 1991, eh? 🤩

The Race for Every Child is tomorrow! We are walking in support of the Brain Tumor Trouncers team. Here's a message from BTT team lead Dr. Brian Rood: "Every dollar we raise goes directly to furthering childhood brain tumor research here at Children’s National. The money is not designated for a general fund where its impact would diffuse throughout the work of the hospital. This year, the funds we raise will support a clinical trial using a first-in-man approach developed here at Children's National. Briefly, we use a custom pipeline we developed to identify protein targets for the immune system that are unique to each individual child's tumor. We then train and expand the child's own immune cells to recognize those targets and infuse them back to kill the tumor cells. Providing unique therapeutic options where few exist requires a great deal of infrastructure that is not supported by traditional operations. We need your help to provide these innovative therapies." These are the folks who gave us 16 years with Joe that we didn't think we'd have. Donations will be accepted through 10/31.
Many of you know that our son, Joe, was a patient at Children's National Medical Center for many years. We continue to support CNMC in his memory, and the 2024 Race for Every Child is almost here! I'm getting a late start this year, but I'm still hoping to raise a significant amount for the Brain Tumor Trouncers! Will you donate today? Click here for my personal donation page.
