The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) recently introduced the new GSTC MICE Criteria, which are divided into three main areas: Venues, Event Organizers, and Events & Exhibitions. Alongside this launch, applications are now being accepted for the Early Adopter Program. This initiative is specifically crafted to aid in the practical implementation of the GSTC MICE Criteria. Spanning two years, this program offers a valuable chance for stakeholders within the industry to actively participate and be among the first to put the criteria into action. During this period, participants will have the opportunity to cultivate a collaborative atmosphere where they can exchange insights, address challenges, and share best practices. Through this collective effort, organizations can deepen their understanding, tackle common obstacles, and continually enhance practices within the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences/Conventions, and Events/Exhibitions) sector. The overarching goal of the program is to establish a strong foundation of knowledge and expertise, thereby contributing to the sustainable and responsible advancement of the industry. Setting the table for a stable economic year, the #BCTDA recently approved a relatively flat net lodging tax revenue forecast of $34.3 million for FY25. This forecast guides how we invest in activities that inspire visitors to walk through the front doors of local businesses and fuel our economy with net new dollars. Takeaways from the March board meeting include: 📊Feb. lodging occupancy and demand; 📈Adoption of the FY25 Lodging Forecast at $34.3 million following a finance committee recommendation informed by Tourism Economics data; 🙋♂️Appointment of one new lodging appointment and one new finance appointment to serve on the Tourism Product Development Fund (TPDF) Committee; 🥅Business development update on incoming sporting events.
