Great campaign out of Australia, and a solid endorsement of tourism and its importance to Australia’s national and regional economies. There’s scope to build on the messaging about economic benefits to reflect the many other ways in which Australians benefit from a thriving tourism industry (our research shows that the social and cultural benefits of tourism - vibrant communities, enhanced regional identity and community pride, opportunities to participate in festivals and events, opportunities to learn more about other cultures, and so on - are as important to Australians as the economic benefits) but wouldn’t it be great to see the attitude this campaign represents in NZ too? 👏
Today we launched 'We are the Australian tourism industry', a Tourism Australia led initiative, where the industry come together to highlight the importance of tourism to Australia’s economy and communities across the country. Our team at Ngurrangga Tours and Training and our regional tourism industry are absolutely devastated that Minister Rita Saffioti MLA will be removing Tourism WA’s National Park Experience Development (NPTED) Managers from the regions. This decision represents a significant loss, not only for the regional communities they serve but for the broader tourism landscape in Western Australia. Having TWA staff based in the regions is vital. Their on-the-ground expertise allows them to provide tailored support to local operators, strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders, and ensure tourism initiatives align with the unique needs of each region. They play a critical role in driving authentic and sustainable tourism growth, enhancing visitor experiences, and fostering community vibrancy. We value and love our regional staff—they are not just representatives of tourism but trusted partners in the community. Their presence has made a real difference where it matters most, particularly in supporting tourism businesses. As someone who has worked extensively with regional tourism, I’ve seen firsthand how invaluable their contributions are. It’s crucial that we advocate for keeping these positions within the regions at a minimum until the four year program has been in place to maintain the momentum and growth that has been cultivated over years of dedicated, place-based work. #weneedthem #regionsmatter #partofourcommunity Tourism Council Western Australia Tourism Western Australia Pilbara Development Commission City of Karratha Australia's North West Issue 834 https://lnkd.in/gPpssjaT

Happy World Tourism Day! Today, we celebrate the powerful impact of tourism on both local economies and cultural understanding. Whether you're traveling abroad or exploring your own backyard, tourism plays a vital role in economic growth, job creation, and community development. In times like these, domestic tourism has never been more important. By choosing to explore the hidden gems in your own country, you not only support local businesses but also contribute to the revival of the tourism sector, which has faced significant challenges in recent years. On this World Tourism Day, take the opportunity to explore new destinations within your country—whether it’s a national park, a historical site, or an authentic local experience. By doing so, you’re not only enriching your own life but also playing a key role in the economic recovery and cultural preservation of communities that depend on tourism. Let’s work together to build a more connected, understanding, and economically vibrant world, starting with the beauty and diversity of our own countries. #MHOffice #WorldTourismDay #SupportLocalTourism #ExploreLocally #CulturalAppreciation #TourismForGrowth

The time has arrived. We need to talk about why community-based tourism is so impactful. According to the latest statistics, community-based tourism is driving a $4 billion boost to local economies globally. It also ensures that about 70% of tourism revenue stays within local areas. This not only empowers local economies but also helps 📌 Raising living standards 📌 Creating a real and lasting impact 📌 Encourage cultural exchange. Here are 4 reasons that prove the same: ✅ Empowering Local Communities: > When you travel to places where the tourism money stays within the community, you help boost local economies and improve living standards. > It’s a direct way to support the people who host you. ✅ Preserving Cultural Heritage: > Community-based tourism encourages locals to take pride in their traditions and natural surroundings. > This pride helps them protect and preserve their cultural and natural heritage. ✅ Promoting Sustainable Practices: > This type of tourism focuses on caring for the environment and using resources wisely. > It ensures that tourism benefits everyone while protecting the places you visit. ✅ Providing Authentic Experiences: > Community-based tourism lets you step away from typical tourist spots and truly dive into local life. > You get to experience things just like the locals do, making your trip both memorable and meaningful. What’s your take on this approach? #community #tourism #experience

The balance between benefiting local communities and providing enjoyable experiences for visitors is crucial for sustainable tourism. Several strategies can be implemented to make tourism work for both locals and visitors. First, promoting off-peak travel can alleviate overcrowding and distribute tourist spending more evenly throughout the year. This approach not only enhances the visitor experience by reducing congestion but also provides a steady income for local businesses year-round. Second, investing in infrastructure that benefits both residents and tourists, such as public transportation and cultural sites, ensures that the local community enjoys long-term improvements. Additionally, involving local communities in tourism planning and decision-making fosters a sense of ownership and ensures that tourism development aligns with local interests and needs. By prioritising sustainable practices and supporting local economies, tourism can become a positive force that enriches both visitors' experiences and residents' quality of life. #SustainableTourism #ResponsibleTravel #TourismBalance #LocalEconomies Source - https://lnkd.in/dWgXqCEj
