The Urgent Need for Inclusion in the Olympics: A Call for Unity The Olympic Games have long stood as a symbol of global unity, bringing together nations in a celebration of athletic prowess and cultural exchange. However, the exclusion of certain nations from participating poses a significant threat to the very essence of this global event and, by extension, to humanity itself. Inclusion in the Olympics is more than just a matter of fair play; it is a testament to our collective commitment to peace, mutual respect, and understanding. When nations are excluded, we miss the opportunity to bridge cultural divides, promote global solidarity, and foster a sense of belonging among all peoples. This exclusion can breed resentment and deepen geopolitical tensions, countering the Olympic spirit of harmony and cooperation. Moreover, the absence of any nation from the Games undermines the Olympic ideal of universality. Every country, regardless of its political or economic status, should have the opportunity to showcase its athletes and share its unique culture with the world. The Olympics are a platform for marginalized voices to be heard and for lesser-known nations to shine on a global stage. To safeguard the future of the Olympics and to strengthen our shared humanity, it is imperative that we strive for complete inclusion. By embracing every nation, we not only uphold the Olympic values but also take a vital step towards a more inclusive, peaceful, and united world. Let's ensure that the Olympic flame burns brightly for all, illuminating the path to global unity and understanding.

Sports must be fair. But fairness is impossible if people are left behind. At the European Investment Bank (EIB), supporting diversity, equity and inclusion across various sectors, including sports, is essential to contribute to a more prosperous society. The impact of our projects was evident during the Paralympics, where we witnessed the participation of Oleksandr Drapak and the 14 athletes of Ukraine’s national sitting volleyball team. They trained at the Kolos sports and rehabilitation complex in Reshetylivka, Poltava Oblast, which was renovated through a collaboration among the Bank, our partners at the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, Ukraine’s Ministry for Restoration, and UNDP Ukraine. We were pleased to discuss the importance of the Paralympics for the 1.3 billion people with disabilities worldwide with Raymon Blondel, President of the European Paralympic Committee, during his meeting with our Director-General for Human Resources, BARBARA LEVEEL. In this conversation, we explained how the EIB can contribute, from investing in innovation to financing tailored infrastructure and housing. A key example of this commitment is our partnership with Spain’s ILUNION, which is leading the way in accessibility for people with disabilities. Diversity and difference unite us, drive change, and make us stronger. The EIB Group continues to invest in transformational projects that have a tangible impact on the lives of all Europeans, empowering them to strive for excellence in sports and in all other endeavours. I look forward to new partnerships that can make a real difference. An inclusive Europe is a more competitive and innovative place to live and do business. A win for inclusion is a win for us all.

🌍 The IBTM Events opening speech set the tone for an essential conversation : inclusivity in the events industry. Seeing Paralympian and trailblazer Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson on stage this morning was a powerful reminder of the gaps we still need to address globally. In France, even after the Paris 2024 Paralympics, many train stations and public transport systems remain inaccessible. This highlights a broader issue : the event industry must do better—not only for physical accessibility but also for neurodivergent individuals. 🚀 What must change ? 1️⃣ Adopt inclusive design practices like those championed by Megan Henshall (Google’s Neu Project) 2️⃣ Shift societal perceptions of disability, as advocated by Michaël Jérémiasz (Paralympian & Chef de Mission, Paris 2024) 3️⃣ Take practical, actionable steps to improve accessibility, as detailed by Marianne Dijkshoorn EMa (author, "Make Your Event Accessible for Everyone") The time is now and our industry needs to lead by example. Let’s work together to ensure ALL individuals feel welcomed and empowered at every event 🌟 What actions are YOU taking to make your events more inclusive ? Share below ! 👇 #IBTMWorld #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityForAll #fromwordtoaction

Pride House at the Olympic Games : a safe place for all. As you all know, Paris is hosting the Olympic games this year ! Organisation, celebration, sport, sharing and challenges are the main words for this enormous event that will take place in the french capital. As we navigate through the cahotic and frenetic organisation of the games we understand that it is not only a matter of sports. This year the games are promoting inclusivity during sporting activities and after the Olympic Games. The goal is to share and raise awareness for a more inclusive society, even after the big event. The Paris 2024 Organising Committee, the Ministry of Sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Fier Play association* have joined forces to take collective action against all forms of discrimination in the highly complex world of sport. Three actions have emerged. The first action will have a strong symbolic value, with the 2024 Games emblem decked out in rainbow colours. "The Olympics have a collective responsibility to bring people together", declared Tony Estanguet, Chairman of Paris 2024. In fact during the Games, a place of celebration will be dedicated to athletes from the LGBTQIA+ community: Pride House. A place to celebrate and raise awareness. * An association acting for fair play, inclusion, equity and respect for people in sport whatever their sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity.

🌍✨ Promoting Inclusivity in Sports: A Call to Action ✨🌍 Hello, LinkedIn community! As the Olympics approach, I feel compelled to address a significant matter that has been making headlines recently. The controversy surrounding France's hijab ban has sparked a crucial conversation about the importance of inclusivity and diversity in the world of sports. Throughout my career, I have witnessed the power of sports in bringing people together, breaking down barriers, and fostering mutual respect. It is a vehicle that transcends borders, cultures, and beliefs, uniting individuals from all walks of life. Therefore, it is paramount for the Olympic committee to be more diligent in selecting states and countries that embrace and welcome all athletes. The recent ban on hijabs in France has raised concerns about religious freedom and the ability of athletes to express their faith while competing on a global stage. It is disheartening to witness athletes being restricted from fully embracing their identity and beliefs as they strive for excellence. The Olympic committee has a responsibility to uphold the principles of inclusivity and respect for diversity. By carefully considering the values and policies of potential host countries, they can send a powerful message that sports should serve as a unifying force, rather than a divisive one. Sports should be a platform where athletes can showcase their talents, skills, and dedication, regardless of their race, religion, or gender. It should be a space that celebrates diversity, encourages understanding, and promotes unity. Together, we can advocate for an Olympic Games that truly embodies the spirit of fair competition and inclusivity. Let us stand together and urge the Olympic committee to prioritize inclusivity and diversity in their decision-making process. By doing so, we can create an environment where athletes feel respected, valued, and supported, regardless of their background or beliefs. Join me in championing a future where sports serve as a catalyst for positive change, breaking down barriers and fostering a sense of belonging for all. Together, we can shape a world where everyone feels welcome and embraced, both on and off the field. #InclusivityInSports #DiversityMatters #SportsUnite 🌍✨🏅🌍✨
