President and CEO at Tucson Electric Power/UNS Energy Corporation

It's not common knowledge that our grid operators must perfectly balance the amount of power on the grid at the moment our customers want to use it. Monday's solar eclipse will introduce an unusual challenge as energy from the sun plummets and zooms back in a relatively short period, impacting our own large solar arrays and our customers’ private ones. Our skilled team of operators are prepared for a 60 percent drop in solar energy. They can enjoy a breather afterward: We’re told Tucson won’t see a comparable eclipse like this for another 21 years. #TalentedTeams #FlandrauScienceCenter
