Tech Alone Can't Fix Bad Urban Design Technocrats worldwide often fall into a trap: They believe throwing more gadgets at a poorly designed city (like this 2019 version) will magically solve its problems. Reality check: No amount of apps, sensors, or "smart" infrastructure can overcome fundamentally flawed urban layouts. This highlights a crucial difference: #Placemaking is not Software #Placemaking is the heartbeat of democratic city cultures #Placemaking is the heartbeat of the "rivers of life" that are urban public spaces Great cities require thoughtful physical design envisioned by all people, not just digital band-aids. True urban transformation demands we return our built environment to the human-scale, not just overlay car-supremacy cities with tech. #Placemaking fosters a wiser balance by actively emerging, keeping, renewing, reclaiming, repairing, reconnecting, transitioning, and transforming places to better serve the living needs and aspirations of communities.

This is being hailed as a major milestone for public transport and bus service reform. In theory if this did actually result in better services in all areas, not just profitable routes, it would be real plus for communities. However, we are also constantly being warned about a financial black hole in government finances so serious that OAPs are losing their winter fuel allowance, and local authorities effectively going ‘bankrupt’. Hopefully this will not be another area for significant cuts to current funding. Buses and drivers are not going to be any cheaper to run and employ.
Today we've announced new steps that will help put bus services back into the hands of local people. For more information on how this will benefit local communities: https://lnkd.in/ekSFeDny

🌇🥵Cities are feeling the heat – and every degree of relief counts. This study from Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE) and Southeast University found that rural belts around city's can reduce urban temperatures. 🌳🌾 Rising warm air in the urban area generates a low-pressure zone, drawing in cooler air from adjacent rural regions. This effect depends on the city's size and the type of land cover in the surrounding countryside. Explore further ➡️ https://ow.ly/bzoH50SLXkg
