"March is here and it both feels like the year is well underway and has hardly begun. We’ve started planning for the annual REGENERATE Conference and are excited to bring the conference back to Denver this fall. We’re planning to better utilize the new National Western Center and SPUR campuses to bring the community together and to deliver practical content for ranchers and farmers. Please mark your calendars for November 6-8! This year’s conference, Innovating for Resilient Agriculture, will interrogate and explore data, technology, information collection and sharing, ways of learning and knowing, and the myriad approaches to fulfilling our ecological roles. We’re currently soliciting ideas and proposals for hands-on workshops and presentations for November 6. Please reach out to Sam Hinkle (sam@quiviracoalition.org), our development director, to get more information. You may have noticed the trend toward data collection on ranches and farms. This seems to be driven by the belief that regenerative agriculture can become an important carbon sink as well as a recognition that resilience to climate change is critical for the future of agriculture. New technologies have greatly expanded our ability to gather and process large amounts of data, but how is this data made available and useful to those putting it to work on the ground? Further, are ranchers, farmers, and other land managers being asked what information they want and need to make decisions?" 👁 What is your vision for farming and food in 2100? Five years ago, that would have been an easy question... we would probably have described something like the image on the left (image A): a harmonious future in a makeable world... you have probably seen many similar images before? But now I'm not so sure anymore... because today's world no longer feels quite so makeable... after five years of pandemics, supply chain disruptions, price shocks and geopolitical turmoil: do such utopic images now seem a little detached from reality? Last month we won a small grant from Wageningen University & Research for our project "Pockets of resilience in a volatile world". Together with The Global Network of Lighthouse Farms, we will create new visions for resilient and thriving farming communities, that are ready for whatever new disruptions may emerge over time... and for this approach, the image on the right (image B) comes to mind... But before we start: what do YOU think? Which image resonates with your vision of a shared future? A) An eco-efficient food system in a harmonious world B) Pockets of resilience in a volatile world Or C) Neither... please add your own image in the replies! You can use AI like we did, or put your own creative pen to paper! 👁️🗨️ Federico Andreotti Mariana Debernardini Lenora Ditzler Miranda Meuwissen Mark van der Poel Ariette Matser

The book has landed! With a Foreword written by Sarah Langford the book from the increasingly popular and important film Six Inches of Soil “How to Heal Our Soils, Ourselves, and Our Communities Through Regenerative Farming” already reveals authentic evidence and heartfelt credibility for the reader to relish. The labour of love from a reliable and encouraging farming community has been echoed in this beautiful and inspirational publication and is out NOW! There is an interesting and accessible tapestry of Interludes and Chapters which are threaded throughout, like worms within the soil. Interludes which are predominately about the societal, philosophy and political aspects of food and agriculture, coupled with Chapters about the people behind the regenerative farming movement. Farmers share so generously, their livelihoods, for our future generations and for a global audience. Information is consistently provided via dialogues, conversations, interviews and quotes which champion both science and human spirit. Brook Morgan’s graphics brings the book to life along with the unexpected relief of a glossary! Readable, poetic and illustrative in its production, charming, evocative, and educational, “Six Inches of Soil: How to Heal Our Soils, Ourselves, and Our Communities Through Regenerative Farming” is above all helpful and honest, not just for farmers, but for anyone and everyone. If you can’t see the film, read the book, but I urge you to enjoy both. 5m Books Ltd #sixinchesofsoil #regenerativeagriculture #community #soil #bookreview
