QUT Graduate Research Network’s Post

🔦 Staff Spotlight 🔦 Today we meet Ivy Chen, GRE+D's Support Officer (or, the absolute rock of the team!) 📚 Ivy is passionate about ..  Supporting staff with administrative tasks and help our HDRs (Higher Degree Researchers) with all the training information during their HDR journey within QUT and beyond. 💻 Can you tell us a little about your role at GRE+D? I am the Support Officer for GRE+D team at QUT, where I facilitate the team of training workshops, HDR orientations and competitions. Additionally, I am responsible for managing HDR student inquiries. Being at the forefront of GRE+D, I find satisfaction in assisting students, faculty, and staff members. 😊 What do you most enjoy about your role?  The most rewarding part of my role is being able to solve problems, provide guidance, and make a positive impact on student’s HDR journey. My role often involves diverse tasks and responsibilities. This variety can keep the job interesting and allows me to develop a wide range of skills. 👩🏫 Are you working on any new projects for this year?  We are currently restructuring the supervisor accreditation process to make it easier and more streamlined for supervisors. ✨ Who do you enjoy collaborating with, at QUT or beyond?  Working in QUT usually involves collaborating with colleagues from different departments. I find working very close with GRC (Graduate Research Centre) is always a very pleasant experience. We have strong working relationships and achieving common goals as a team can be a positive aspect of the job. 🏘 What was your first, or most unusual, job?  My first real full-time job was Property Manager Assistant. The role in real estate agency had a lot of connections with university students who are new to the country and struggle with university life, that inspired me to seek a career in university because I know I can help them more. 🌏 Which two training sessions should HDRs absolutely take this Semester?   I believe the most essential training session is the HDR Orientation event GRE+D hosts every February and July, not only because it delivers all the important information to new HDR students but provides access to updated information for current students for their HDR journey. Another important training is the HDR Workshop: Working with your supervisor. This workshop gives our HDRs the tools they need to get the most out of their relationship with their supervisors.
