Quantum Computing in Finland: Paving the Way for Tomorrow In the world of tech innovation, Finland has made its mark with Nokia and Rovio’s Angry Birds. But the country is now setting its sights on an ambitious new frontier: quantum computing. With investments reaching €90 million, Finland is racing to build a 300-qubit quantum computer by scaling up its first devices, HELMI and LUMI, in partnership with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and IQM. Finland’s success is powered by strong collaborations between Aalto University, VTT, and quantum start-ups like Bluefors and Algorithmiq. Companies such as Algorithmiq are developing quantum algorithms to solve life sciences challenges, and IQM has already raised €200 million to scale quantum innovations. Government support, led by Business Finland and Research Council of Finland, has been instrumental, and the newly formed Finnish Quantum Flagship (FQF) under Professor Peter Liljeroth aims to drive research, training, and a skilled talent pipeline for quantum technology. Finland’s approach combines education, research, and private investment to create a robust ecosystem for quantum breakthroughs. By fostering local and international talent and collaboration, this Nordic nation is positioning itself as a forerunner in the global quantum race. The next event you can find me at and why you definitely shouldn't miss it... Just as AI was not (or far below) on your radar 5 years ago, it will probably be no different with quantum computing today. Or is that an assumption? It still seems like a distant future and we are yet to fully understand what the impact will be until we can effectively experience it for ourselves. The thing is, once you can experience it for yourself, you are too late. The importance of data and technology are almost becoming a catchword within healthcare. Everyone talks about it but we often don't get beyond some frameworks for data sharing and interoperability. Quantum computing is fundamentally different from classical computing due to its use of qubits, superposition, entanglement and interference. It has the potential to solve certain classes of problems much faster and more efficiently than classical computers, but many challenges remain before it can be widely adopted and applied to real-world scenarios. So if you want to talk (which I definitely do) with quantum experts and improve your understanding of it, you'd better attend Quantum Circle Summit in November. More informatie here👇
