Continuity, which is the most important part of any shooting project, is handled by different different people on set. There's a team of assistant directors who are given this responsibility to check the continuity. So what are the different categories of continuity? One is the artist continuity, another one is the set continuity. Third one is the costume continuity. And there's one more called makeup continuity. So what is artist continuity? Suppose you're watching a movie and if the actor is at position A and he moves to position B in one shot and suddenly in the very next shot, you. Be the same person instead of at point B, he's standing again at point A by mistake. At the time of shoot, there will be a huge jerk to your eyes and you will make out that what happened to the actor, he was standing at this point earlier and now again he's standing there. So this is taken care by the assistant director who is responsible for checking the continuity of the actors. Sometimes there are more than one assistant director who are kept for continuity because there are more actors performing for the film. So how do they do it? They keep a track of what is actor doing at the time of short. So suppose an actor picks a cup while shooting and he speaks a particular dialogue while sipping the cup and you now you're going to take a close up. So in the master shot you have seen that this actor has picked up a cup but now you are going to take a close up of his, you know very extreme close up of his expression and where he is sipping and taking the dialogue. Then there has to be a continuity match from the long shot otherwise there will be a jerk. So this is taken care by the continuity assistant director.
