The most unexpectedly fun feature to build was definitely #10. All of the #Excel exports I've written in the past have been pretty uninteresting code, but this was the first time I needed to build a formula export instead of just a data export. We have a really chunky cost-of-#hydrogen-production model at the core of our tool, and we wanted users to be able to trust that we were modelling this correctly. Since a lot of analysts in this space use Excel, we decided to dump all our model formulas dynamically into our Excel exports along with the input datasets, so you can get a full cashflow model of a potential hydrogen project in Excel with one click. Turns out you can pretty easily map most #NumPy functions onto Excel functions, as long as your arrays don't go beyond 2D. When we extend our model the Excel export automatically updates, and now we are adding new commodities we get Excel-based cashflow models for these commodities out-of-the-box. Even better, if users have their own model they want to run on our platform then these changes get propagated through to the export with no extra work. Just to flex, our models currently run on: #Spark (for producing a searchable global dataset), #GPU (for the project-level "deep" optimizer), CPU (loading a specific pre-optimized project), and now Excel (which I guess is just CPU but on the user's machine). All from a single model formula definition. Very DRY, very mindful. #climatetech #deeptech
