If anyone is looking for a cost-effective PID controller to handle your every-day locking needs, check out the new product my team released. I have tested the DSC1 locking on the following setups: - Interferometer with PZT-mirror actuator (servo bump around 30 kHz) - Locking side-of-fringe to a ~1 MHz linewidth optical cavity with the modulation port of a diode laser (servo bump around 65 kHz) - Peak locking to a ~1 MHz linewidth optical cavity using the built-in dither modulation/demodulation lock (dither frequencies from 100 Hz to 100 kHz) - PDH locking to a ~1 MHz optical cavity using an external PDH setup - Locking beam pointing using a Polaris PZT mirror and tiny photodiode as the position sensor (kHz-class bandwidth, limited by the Polaris PZT mirror speed) - Noise-eating/power stabilization on a laser source using modulation port or fast intensity modulator down to <0.1% noise (~65 kHz servo bump) - On all these setups, there is a built-in ramp function that allows you to use the device like an oscilloscope to monitor the response of your system as you tune the actuator voltage, which is quite handy Kudos to the team in Colorado (especially Samuel Compton and Noah Berry). #lasers #optics #photonics #quantum
Introducing Thorlabs' new DSC1 Compact Digital Servo Controller! Designed to lock or stabilize an optical or electronic system to an input voltage signal by providing real-time voltage feedback determined by a user-selected control algorithm, this compact digital servo controller features 100 kHz of bandwidth and an input and output voltage range of ±4 V. The new DSC1 can actively actuate and lock devices like current-modulated lasers, piezo actuators, acousto-optic modulators (AOMs), electro-optic modulators (EOMs), fiber stretchers, voice coils, or fast steering mirrors. The controller has three modes that offer complementary functionality: Servo Lock mode (side-of-fringe), Peak Lock mode (sometimes called dither or modulation-demodulation lock), and Ramp mode (scans across the lock point while monitoring the voltage from the system). Users can choose to configure the operation of the device through either the integrated touchscreen display, a remote desktop PC graphical user interface (GUI), or a remote PC software development kit (SDK).
