13-19th May 2024 is Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK, and prioritising mental health is more crucial than ever. Mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of their role or seniority within an organisation. From stress and anxiety to depression and burnout, the impact of these challenges can be profound, both personally and professionally. Yet, all too often, mental health struggles are stigmatised or overlooked, leading individuals to suffer in silence and hindering their ability to perform at their best. This is where mental health first aiders step in. Just as we have trained first aiders to provide immediate assistance in physical emergencies, the need for mental health first aiders is becoming increasingly apparent. These individuals are equipped with the skills and knowledge to offer initial support to those experiencing mental health challenges, making them invaluable assets in promoting well-being and resilience within the workplace. They are trained to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions, they provide a compassionate ear and practical guidance to those in need. Whether it's offering a listening ear, providing information on available resources, or guiding individuals towards professional support, mental health first aiders play a vital role in breaking down barriers to mental health care and fostering a culture of openness and support. As champions of mental health and well-being, MHFA’s play a crucial role in providing immediate support to those in distress, breaking down stigma, and promoting a culture of compassion and understanding. If you don’t already have one/some in your workplace, why not start a discussion about it with your team?. If you need support, our team of associates are here to help so get in touch via DMs or hit the website button on our profile. #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawarenessweek ________________________________________________________________________________ ✨ We are SLS 360, an EDI consultancy that helps colleagues and organisations in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Events space (M.I.C.E). As we close out Women’s Health Month and Mental Health Awareness Month this week, let’s remember to prioritize our physical and mental health year-round. We can do that by educating ourselves on the common risks women face, scheduling necessary preventive care exams and investing in our emotional wellbeing. Let’s also encourage the women in our life to practice self-care and self-love. We can start with affirmation. It's Men's Health Awareness Month. Did you know that men are significantly less likely to seek support for mental health challenges? In fact, only 36% of referrals to NHS talking therapies are for men*, highlighting a critical gap in access to help. At Onebright, we’re focusing on breaking the stigma, raising awareness, and providing resources to support men’s mental well-being at home, in the workplace and beyond. As International Men’s Health Week seeks to raise awareness of men’s health issues, I think of this troubling statistic – men are half as likely as women to seek treatment for mental health issues but are three- to four times as likely to die by suicide. The reason is simple: many men, and much of our culture, view emotional health issues and seeking help as a sign of weakness in men. These kinds of misperceptions and stigmas harm everyone. At BCCS, we continually advocate for mental health. During International Men’s Health Week, please help us remove the stigmas by discussing men’s mental health with the people around you. https://ow.ly/fJEx50RYQ6y #MensHealth #MensHealthWeek #CancerScreening #BCCSCares
