Fantastic week at ICMJ northern conference. Meeting and networking with fellow peers and industry professionals. Learning about the cattle supply chain from the paddock right through to the plate. Some key takeaways relevant to the producer/feedlot sector: - The potential profit that stands to be lost from the mishandling of cattle before slaughter -New and upcoming policy changes in the beef industry (EUDR) -The importance of traceability in the supply chain and the exciting new technology being developed to assist in this.

#Clientsdoingcoolthings: I first met Fiona Tomlinson and Rogie Tomlinson-Gillies when they launched Sidekick Soda at the Auckland Food Show. They were the first to sign up for Retail Rookie, came along and took notes (!!) and were fully engaged in learning all they could about the industry and building a strong community. Over the last six months I've been working 1:1 with them through Pitchfork NZ to build capability around strategy, planning and understanding all things retail and FMCG through Regional Business Partner funding. The programs are simple, focused and all about improving their capability to take on the industry with clear structure, knowledge and focus. Couldn't be prouder of the results they're seeing, the step-change in confidence and knowing that they are better equipped to tackle all that retail has to throw at them. They're going into the biggest category (beverages) in the biggest market (USA) and we've developed a clear focused customer & shopper proposition that gives them clear space from the 'big boys' in the category. Having a learning mindset is what sets these two apart - they are always up for listening, asking questions and refining as they go. 🥁 2 days post Businessplan-Wettbewerb Berlin-Brandenburg (BPW) 🥁 Let's get it out of the way: We did not win, sorry, fans! Thanks for all the support though, especially everyone who came to the event just for Henrietta! You guys are just ❤️ Congrats to the winners of both the main prize and the audience prize (I honestly don't think anyone could have competed with that winning pitch, so chapeau!). The good news for me and Henrietta though: We ranked 6th in total! Out of more than 150 entries 🤯 I tend to sweep accomplishments like this under the rug but I think it is time to take a step back and look at this result as it is. This was my first business plan I ever wrote. It is a strange feeling to publicly say that I am proud of something I achieved but I am. Is this a female thing? And of course it wouldn't be a proper LinkedIn Post without the key learnings, so I also have one for you: A business plan is hard work but once I had it, it made so much sense to do it. Sounds like a no brainer but sometimes we need to say the most obvious things or even write them down - like you have to with your business idea in a business plan. Many of the things I wrote down felt like "d'uh" moments because it was all in my head, not really cohesive but it was there. Consequently, it was really important to see them all written down in a structured form. It made me feel much safer with my idea and the execution. Also, I was able to incorporate so many bits and pieces that came to me which led to a well rounded strategy. So I will definitely continue with the plan for the next phase in may and incorporate the feedback I was given. While I am a die hard LA Sparks fan 😀, I have upmost appreciation for A’ja Wilson as an amazing person and absolute beast of a basketball player! Two takeaways from this clip is authentic leadership and surround yourself with people who support you being your best. She exemplifies authentic leadership. You are always going to receive A’ja in all of her glory. The wide range of emotions that she exudes on and off the court with her team are refreshingly authentic. She has high expectations for herself and her team as her team tries for their third WNBA title. As leader you know that you can’t do it all alone and there is a moment in which she appreciation for her teammates holding her accountable. The vulnerability as a leader to acknowledge your humanity and state I have bad days too is remarkable insight into psychological safety. As a leader, I have created an environment where I can let you know I am not at my best and I am open to receive feedback when I am not giving my best is a blessing. Accountability to notice you are not at your best and to lend support is whatever leader and team needs. #authenticleadership #yourcirclematters
