After months of conversations with leaders navigating today's workplace challenges, I wanted to share some insights about what's really changing in leadership today. Experienced professionals in today's workplace feel like the ground is constantly shifting beneath their feet. The strategies and expertise that got them here don't seem to work like they used to. Despite extensive experience and a track record, leaders find themselves feeling less effective and more drained. Many have tried doubling down on control or chasing every new trend. Neither approach seems to work. Here's why: We're not just dealing with changes in where or how people work. The entire employee-employer dynamic has transformed. Employees have more voice, more choice, and more influence than ever before. I've just released a new report examining this shift and offering a practical framework for moving forward, drawing from my experience guiding leaders through unprecedented changes at Harvard and in their respective organizations. https://lnkd.in/erEDdJea #Leadership #FutureOfWork

A few years ago, I conducted research to determine the optimal time allocation for my leadership focus areas. I averaged insights from sources like McKinsey, MIT Sloan, Gartner, and several research papers to establish an “ideal” benchmark. This percentage split per focus area can vary based on factors such as the leader’s maturity, the organisation’s maturity, the industry, and your direct manager that influences your focus to name few. To reflect on my performance, I track my effort spent monthly to see how closely I align with my “ideal.” This practice also highlights areas for improvement when I spend too much or too little time in a specific area. In the early days, I found it challenging to dedicate a quarter of my time to employees. However, this changed when I embraced a CARE culture. For me, it focused on inclusivity and fostering a sense of belonging within the organisation. Ensuring open channels of communication and actively listening to people helped create the culture I wanted to be part of. I guess that is why I can call myself a PEOPLE FOCUSED LEADER today. #careculture, #leadership, #peoplefocus, #inclusivity

How Can Company Leaders and Board Members Sustain a Motivating Work Environment? Emerging, middle market and large organizations frequently underscore the importance of company culture for attracting and retaining valuable talent integral to business success. In doing so, appealing corporate values are espoused by leaders in town halls and the board room. While these values are promoted, they often are not demonstrated. As a result, these enterprises fail to walk the talk--they do not cultivate a workplace that inspires lasting commitment, productivity, and innovation. Our work shows that creating a sense of belonging and institutionalizing it via key elements resolve this problem. Elements include the balance employees experience, optimal leadership approaches, resources workers need to perform and sustain themselves, capability growth, and new opportunities to apply these abilities. The power to lead is the power to mislead, and the power to mislead is the power to destroy." -Thomas S. Monson Leadership is crucial for organizations. As I reflect on this quote, I'm reminded of the profound impact that poor leadership can have. Unethical practices and lack of trust can lead to employee disengagement and high turnover rates. If your organization is facing retention issues, it might be time to evaluate your leadership. A positive work culture encourages employees to be enthusiastic about their work, while a negative one can leave them feeling demotivated. Leaders play a significant role in shaping the environment in which employees thrive. #Leadership #WorkCulture #EmployeeEngagement

According to The New Era of Leadership report done in partnership by Chief and Wakefield Research, 54% of CEOs surveyed expect 2024 to be an even more challenging year for leadership 👀 And, 1 in 3 executives felt changing worker expectations including compensation and culture is the top leadership challenge 🤨 Culture matters. So how, in this challenging time of a faster-than-ever, AI-infused, hybrid and flexible business landscape, can leaders balance meeting business goals while building a strong culture? Start with clear communication. ✅ Be transparent about organizational expectations ✅ Be candid about who your company is - and isn’t ✅ Be trustworthy with consistent updates And, most importantly, don’t be afraid to have the difficult conversations ❌ Business isn’t all roses 🌹 pretending it is to please everyone will only stifle your company’s and employees’ growth 🥀 #leadership #thursdaythought #growth #communication #culturematters #transparency
