Free Hot Dogs, Brand Lessons This weekend, I gave away free hot dogs at a holiday fair at our local Art Center. No catch. No sales pitch. Just hundreds of hot dogs, for free. Why? Because I remember when free food at community events was a thing—an act of pure generosity that brought people together. —-And as a marketer, I’ve always admired the simple power of hospitality. Watching people’s faces light up over a free hot dog reminded me of a few lessons that every brand should take to heart: —Generosity builds connection It’s easy to focus on ROI, conversion rates, or KPIs. —But let’s not forget the human side of marketing! People remember how you make them feel, and moments of unexpected generosity stick. —Give without asking for anything in return. Sometimes, it needs to clearly not be about “what’s in it for us.” It’s about showing up for your customers because you can. Give away something valuable—time, attention, a small treat—just to make people smile. —Small Moments are Big A free hot dog isn’t life-changing — but it is a small, simple delight. Small gestures can create outsized moments of joy. As a brand, think about the little moments you can create that make your customers’ day better. A thoughtful freebie, a kind gesture, or a note of appreciation can go a long way. —Hospitality is so Important Great brands act and feel like great hosts.
