Join me in supporting our call to action: "A Deal is Deal!" All European parties need to stand behind a robust #EuropeanGreenDeal and call for continued leadership from the top! We need a European Commission President, Vice President, MEP's and Members States to lead with ambition and make Europe great again. We are facing deep social and environmental tipping points and time is ticking. The European Green Deal should not be considered a political deal dependent on the whims of party politics. This is an innovative package of measures adopted under the leadership of President von der Leyen with a view towards climate ambition and a “just transition”. Contrary to what some political parties will have us believe, most European citizens want climate action and are even willing to pay for it as long as high carbon emitters pay their fair share. Coming out of the European elections we need a strong coalition of continued political support for the Deal and focus on an optimised implementation plan bringing all major stakeholders onboard. The Green Deal is one of the best policies that came out of the EU in the last few years. Just like the New Deal was a pivotal policy moment for the US to come out of a massive economic crisis in the 1930s, so is the Green Deal for Europe in relation to a worsening climate and biodiversity crisis. It needs to be implemented ambitiously to safeguard what we hold dear and near. #EuropeanGreenDeal #climateaction #people #nature

The #EuropeanGreenDeal was never meant to be an environmental wishful thinking. But a plan to accompany and manage the inevitable and disrupting transformation that #climateemergency brings to our economies and society. It is still an unfinished business and cannot depend on partisan politicking. Good regulation and its effective implementation, massive investments in clean solutions in all sectors and notably in skills as well as a determined European level leadership is still highly necessary. A DEAL IS A DEAL | Over 250 policymakers, researchers, business and NGO leaders have signed a call to action for all parties of the newly elected European Parliament to prioritise implementation of the #EuropeanGreenDeal. The Club of Rome has coordinated a call to action with two of the Systems Transformation Hub partners –Climate-KIC and Metabolic –as a reminder that the European Green Deal is Europe's North Star for an ambitious and equitable transition pathway - even more relevant today than at its time of adoption. I believe this report provides a solid foundation for doing just that. I'm grateful to my co-authors and fellow contributors for their excellent work on this report. So that they can future-proof their businesses in Europe –and create the maximum possible impact.   This is one of the reasons why Darwin International founder Feike Sijbesma joined Sandrine Dixson-Declève-Decleve and many other future-focused leaders of business and society including Christiana Figueres, Paul Polman and Sophie Lambin in signing the recent call to action ‘A deal is a deal’.   The call was coordinated by the The Club of Rome with two of the Systems Transformation Hub partners EIT Climate-KIC RIS and Metabolic. ‘A deal is a deal’ calls on the European bloc to show strong and resolute leadership and stay the course on the tenets and ambitions of the #EuropeanGreenDeal (EGD) following the outcome of the recent elections for the #EuropeanParliament.   All regions of the world need to set out and stick to ambitious agendas to make successful #climate and #social #transitions at the global scale needed, and truly enable business, with all its power to innovate, to play its part to the full. 🌍 The European Council has just unveiled its strategic agenda for 2024-2029! 📄✨ Discover it here: https://t.ly/pjZqq This agenda, crafted collectively by the European Council right after the Parliament elections and before the Commission's appointment, sets the Union's priorities for the new mandate. This crucial 8-page document outlines the directives for Commission officials and frames the debates for MEPs. Key highlights: 🌱 Environment: While the agenda touches on environmental concerns, it embeds them within a liberal and technological framework. This approach, centered on economic growth, might fall short of the urgent results we need. 📈 Economic Growth: The agenda champions economic growth, promising a more liberalized single market encompassing energy, essential goods, services, finance, and telecommunications. It also pledges to bolster the World Trade Organization. 🔍 Critical Question: Are we risking our political stability by pushing for an even more open market, despite physical growth limitations? 🏭 Industrial Ambitions: The Union aims to become a technological and industrial powerhouse. Yet, history and global competitors like China and the USA show that achieving this requires robust national policies and a less open economy. 📝 Bureaucracy: The promise of "less procedures and bureaucracy" seems at odds with the Union's role in creating standards and regulations. 💡 Green and Digital Transition: Why combine green and digital? Digital advancements often increase our carbon footprint, challenging the sustainability narrative. 🔄 A New Vision Needed: We need a "pro-business, pro-environment" stance, recognizing that the economy cannot thrive without a sustainable environment. Growth isn't infinite, especially on a planet with finite resources.
