Here's an excerpt: "Unlike more privileged individuals and communities, millions of people in these areas struggle to find work, access quality health care, and even learn as society moved from offline to online activities. In the book, I refer to the latter as “digitally invisible” populations because they live in parts of rural America where there are more cows than people. They remain trapped in geographically redlined urban and suburban areas where structural racism has resulted in rapid disinvestments and slow digital access. They struggle to maintain conspicuous identities amid substantial systemic barriers, which have become more economically harmful and medically dangerous to those who remain in an analog, in-person world." July will mark the one-year anniversary of ChangeLab Solutions’ release of our guide and web tool on policy process evaluation for equity. Over the past year, we’ve been learning from and reflecting with practitioners as they put these resources into action in their communities. Our new blog post shares how our equity tools try to capture an often overlooked and unmeasured part of the policy process: the respect, trust, and authenticity that are the foundation of real community change. Our partners want to affirm the transformational value of centering their relationships with community members in their policymaking — as well as potential impacts that include increased civic engagement, personal agency, community connectedness, and trust.
