I always watch my cat sleep and think, “Wow, they’ve got life figured out!” They just stretch, yawn, and drift off without a care in the world. Imagine if you could sleep like that—no worries, no stress, just sweet, uninterrupted dreams. It’s like they’re in on some secret that we humans missed out on! 😸 So, here’s my thought: let’s take a page from the cat’s playbook this weekend. Let’s prioritize our health and well-being like cats prioritize their naps. Whether it’s catching some extra sleep, stretching out like a cat, or just taking a breather from the daily grind, it’s time to put ourselves first. You deserve it! HolotropicUK June 24 Newsletter Sally and I have arrived at a breathing space. Three weeks of being held by the North Cornish air, and the rich verdant flower-lined paths. A wren flies past as I sit writing this in afternoon sun and warmth. We can let time flow and enter into a phase of nurture, of receiving the air, and breathing out fully. We can reflect on the experiences we have had in the breathwork room in the first half of the year, as facilitators, as breathers and as sitters. Eight years after we first met holotropic breathwork we can be in the world and let there be a good holding, a good womb. We have been evolving our capacities with the Basic Perinatal Matrix of the good womb. Stan Grof links the experience of expansive pleasure in being in the world, with a good experience in the womb, and would say that it sets a template for these experiences post-natally and through life. We have had experiences as breathers which have helped us process and move through traumatic womb elements and it is so much easier for us to feel blessed and at ease nowadays. We know that we are incredibly lucky in this respect. We also know that we need this time in order to hold space for others when we return to our work, and particularly when we hold space in the breathwork room again in September (a double breathwork event), November (two double breathwork events) and December (a single breathwork event). In the language of Gestalt Therapy, we are in the phase of the contact process (the ebb and flow of energy and engagement with the world around us) that is the Fertile Void. We are not seeking to initiate, to make anything happen, just waiting, in between integration of what has happened, and the first emerging sensations of what is to come. We hope that your summer months are also full of this richness, and that you can take any opportunity, however brief, to pause and absorb. We look forward to being with those of you who have registered for our autumn and early winter events. IF YOU HAVE THE ATTENTION OF A GOLDFISH 🙅♀️ 🐡 MY VIDEO IS TOO LONG FOR YOU 4 minutes (I can't find a goldfish emoji, so a puffa fish will have to do) Here are some VERY simple things that make a big difference when your brain is feeling trauma or stress: CONTINUE TO BREATH Yes, it seems crazy, but many people either hold their breath or breathe too quickly, which adversely affects the nervous system. Forget counting, this works. ✅ Deep inhale through the nose until you can't breathe in any more. ✅ Full exhale through the mouth until you don't have any breath left to push out. (do breath in again though😉) Repeat until you feel better. CHANGE YOUR LANGUAGE PATTERN It's easy. Acknowledge and listen to what you are saying to yourself. SPIN NEGATIVE LANGUAGE PATTERNS 180 BY THINKING ABOUT THE OPPOSITE STATEMENT SAY, SILENTLY OR OUT LOUD (your brain can hear either way) An example: ➡️ From: Oh no, oh no... sh****t what am I going to do now. ➡️ To: (breath in)OKaaaay (breath out🌬️), this is not ideal. What small, tiny thing can I do right now? (breath in) Wait for your brain to respond. 🧠 DISTRACT YOUR BRAIN Look at your surroundings (assuming you are safe), smell the air, listen to the sounds, look around you, and then imagine what you would change: 🌧️🌧️💧 Raining? - imagine sunshine, warmth, the brightness close your eyes (unless you like rain, then you are good) 🚦🚗🚗 Next to traffic - imagine being by the ocean/sea or in the forest. Listening to the sounds of nature) You get the idea! ETC..... These are super simple, but practice - they work. I use them. But... I will do a 4-minute workshop this week on techniques you can use together for maximum results. NOBODY HAS THE MONOPOLY ON GOOD IDEAS. IF YOU HAVE SOME GREAT RELAXATION TECHNIQUES THAT ARE QUICK AND EASY, JOT THEM DOWN BELOW. LET'S SHARE AND HELP EACH OTHER FEEL CALMER AND MORE FOCUSED. Gin and Tonic don't count! 🍸😂
