🌽 Shaping Sustainability: Get Ready for the Radicle Corn Value Chain Challenge! 🌽 As we count down to the Radicle Corn Value Chain Challenge #PitchDay next week, Neal Gutterson, Partner & CTO of Radicle Growth shares with us a key sustainability insight from the selection process: “The Corn Value Chain Challenge provided insights on the state of development of technologies to create new uses for corn and to improve corn production sustainability and reduced carbon intensity. While none of this year’s finalists addressed carbon intensity directly, we learned there are many companies pursuing improved cropping tools and technologies to help make corn an even better, low-carbon feedstock for the growing bioeconomy.” Together, we’re working to ensure that innovative ideas come to life, driving demand and supporting the future of our corn farmers! 🚀 To register to watch the livestream of the Challenge, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gRemHJ8X. #RadicleChallenge #AgTech #Innovation #SustainableAgriculture #CornValueChain Thank you to all our Challenge partners: Iowa Corn National Corn Growers Association IL Corn Colorado Corn Promotion Council Kansas Corn KENTUCKY CORN GROWERS ASSOCIATION South Dakota Corn Ohio Corn & Wheat Nebraska Corn Board Michigan Corn

🌽✨ Last week, we wrapped up the finale of the Radicle Corn Value Chain Challenge sponsored by US Corn Farmers, celebrating groundbreaking advancements in sustainable corn applications. Congratulations again to our winners, ME Energy - Liquid Electricity GmbH and Låkril Technologies, for their remarkable work in transforming corn into bio-based chemicals and green energy solutions! 🚀 Iowa Corn Vice President, Mark Mueller, shared powerful words that capture the heart of this initiative: “As a farmer, it’s exciting to see companies like ME Energy - Liquid Electricity GmbH and Låkril Technologies tapping into corn’s potential as a feedstock, unlocking its many benefits and helping to drive its demand. These innovators are finding new ways to convert corn into bio-based chemicals and green energy solutions. While U.S. corn farmers continue to boost productivity and yields— while using less land and embracing more sustainable practices—we’re also facing growing global competition, which has led to supply outpacing demand. Innovations like these, along with initiatives like the Radicle Corn Value Chain Challenge, not only help create the demand needed to match supply but also pave the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for farmers and the industries that depend on us.” Together, we’re forging new paths for corn-based products that support both environmental and economic sustainability. #RadicleChallenge #AgTech #Innovation #SustainableAgriculture #CornValueChain Thank you to all our Challenge partners: Iowa Corn National Corn Growers Association IL Corn Colorado Corn Promotion Council Kansas Corn KENTUCKY CORN GROWERS ASSOCIATION South Dakota Corn Ohio Corn & Wheat Nebraska Corn Board Michigan Corn

Being asked by your clients to change your practices is inconvenient, but probably not unfamiliar for many malting barley farmers. Elizabeth Lunik, Doriana Milenkova, Vito Martielli, Camillo Piero Alborghetti and I analysed European Cooperatives that are active in various crops, and found that growing barley is often highlighted as a major source of scope 3 emissions for brewers and distillers that signed up to SBTi. Apart from becoming more sustainable, the good thing about making changes and lowering your emissions is that it can help to get a seat at the table with retailers, and make the entire value chain a winner. The challenge for cooperatives is to arrange that benefits and costs are shared sufficiently between farmers, processors and manufacturers. They also should ensure that different value chains (that are part of crop rotations) coordinate their demands towards farmers https://lnkd.in/dMgnZaMn #barley #malt #regenAg #sustainability #brewers #distillers #cooperatives

Congratulations to Nick Preissler from Aurora, Nebraska, who has won the inaugural Nitrogen Management Pilot Class in the 2023 National Corn Yield Contest. Preissler, who farms with his dad, grandpa, and uncle achieved an impressive 312.9688 bushels per acre while using 180 lbs or less of nitrogen. This accomplishment demonstrates how Nebraska farmers are at the forefront of sustainable agriculture, successfully balancing high yields with efficient input use. It exemplifies our mission to connect Nebraska's sustainably produced commodities with growing global-market demand. Looking ahead, Preissler is entering the nitrogen management class again in 2024. He plans to further refine his approach by reducing his base nitrogen rate and utilizing in-season monitoring to determine additional application needs. This strategy showcases the ongoing commitment to improvement and efficiency in Nebraska's agricultural sector. Preissler's success and continued innovation highlight Nebraska's position as a leader in sustainable, high-yield corn production, contributing to our state's agricultural prominence on the global stage. Farmers interested in the "J. nitrogen management class" for the nitrogen contest can register until Aug. 14th. The class is open for the first 100 corn producer registrants from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Amplifying Ag with BASF: June planting and slug control In the first installment of the monthly Amplifying Ag series with BASF, Grace Looker, technical product manager for seeds and traits, talks recommendations for June soybean planting, including which maturities to be selecting and how much to up population. Slugs have also become a notable nuisance this year and she goes into detail regarding when damage goes from being mostly cosmetic versus when it deserves more in-depth management.… Continue reading https://lnkd.in/gzFKPRY4

When we began the Corn Belt Ports Initiative in the fall of 2019, there were zero U.S. Ports (listed and ranked on the annual U.S. Ports List) inside of the Corn Belt's lock and dam system (above L/D 26) between Metropolitan St. Louis and Chicago, and between Metropolitan St. Louis and St. Paul. We appreciate the Illinois Farm Bureau (and other organizations with like minds) legislatively championing more Rural U.S. Port options to get our farmer's agricultural products to global markets. Success or failure? What would you say based on the picture? Will the corn outgrow the inter-seeded rows and yield out decent? One thing for sure the pollinators are calling this a success. What you are seeing is a 60" row organic corn trial, inter-seeded buckwheat, cowpeas, sunn hemp, oats, etc. and planted at the SAME TIME of planting corn in the same pass with the same planter. I knew it is recommended to wait till v3/v4 to inter-seed but how will you know what happens if we do not try an experiment. This is one of ten different simultaneous trials consisting of three-acre plots with variations of row spacings, seed populations, inter-seeding varieties, timing, etc. All in the quest for successful regenerating practices that work at scale. This, and the work of many others will shape companies future supply chains of grain sourcing as confidence builds around the success of regenerative practices. #regenerativeatscale #60inchrows #diversityofroots #maximizingsolar #supportingpollinators #futuresupplychain
