Having an elevator pitch ready for our annual Bellevue College Networking & Job fair this Wednesday, May 8th, will ensure you maximize your time with each employer! 1. Start by introducing yourself. "Hello my name is _______, and I am a student at Bellevue College." 2. Next, provide your educational background. "I am currently studying _____," or "I have a degree in _____." 3. It is important that you are upfront with your objectives. "I am seeking a job or internship in ______." Include the position or industry that you are seeking. 4. Aside from your background, it is also important to provide employers with relevant skills and strengths. "I am skilled at_____." Remember to include skills that would be relevant to the position you are seeking. 5. Now, provide employers with the opportunity to tell YOU what they offer. "What opportunities are available?" Remember, this is just the foundation to build your elevator pitch. Personalize and adapt your pitch based on the situation! 🔗Learn more about the employers attending and some job fair tips here: https://lnkd.in/gbgCryZG Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity! Today, I had the privilege of attending the 2024 STEM Career and Internship Fair at UC Santa Cruz. Engaging with recruiters and delving into discussions about potential job opportunities was an enriching experience. One proactive step I took prior to the event was applying for relevant positions in advance. By doing so, I ensured that recruiters had access to my resume and pertinent information, facilitating seamless conversations and maximizing the impact of our interactions. As I reflect on this experience, I recognize the importance of further proactive measures to enhance future career fair engagements. What other strategies do you recommend for maximizing the effectiveness of these events? Let's continue the discussion! #CareerFair #STEMOpportunities #ProactiveApproach

Last week, I attended the Singtel Career Fair at NUS Computing, where I shared insights about life at Singtel and our innovations. After engaging with over 100 students, here are my advcie for young talents: 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁: Many students view career fairs primarily as job application opportunities. However, it’s equally important to explore the job market landscape and learn about company cultures through conversations. 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲: While most students I met were in their final year or master’s programs, it’s valuable for first- and second-year students to attend as well. It’s a great chance to gain insights and start preparing for their careers early. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Many students, especially younger ones, worry about not being “qualified enough.” My advice: be yourself, stay curious, and show interest in the industry & company. Build experience through competitions, reading, and networking. I landed a UX internship at SEA’s largest e-commerce company when I was just year 1—anything is possible with persistence! The job market can be challenging, especially for international students, but opportunities are out there. I applied to over 200 jobs before securing an offer—you control your future! #SingtelChamps #LifeAtSingtel #SingtelLife #EmpowerEveryGeneration

How can you stick in the mind of your audience? Three things: 1. Know your audience, 2. Be present, and 3. Be different. Today kicks off careers fair season for us at unis around Europe. Know your audience: for us it's students. We have a graduate programme / management traineeship as we want to grow our own talent for our future. We look for hunger and ambition, growth mindset, and a match with our culture, and often times we find that with students. Be present: Today Nadya Stroomer-Korovina and Frouke Bamps are at Ekonomika vzw in Belgium speaking with students about the Mainfreight Development Programme. This is the first of 11 upcoming events around Europe we'll be attending. Be different: we go against the grain with most things we do. We do things a bit differently. We like to get to know the students on a personal level, we ask them deep questions, we take an interest in THEM, and don't just spurt a rant about our company. This sounds simple right? Yes, so why isn't everyone doing it? No idea... Take an interest, listen, listen, listen. Do these three things, and you'll stick in your target audience's mind! We're looking forward to meeting students over the coming period and hopefully finding some stars to join our special company. #managementtraineeship #graduatejobs #traineeship #Mainfreight #students Mainfreight Europe Mainfreight

Yesterday I took part in a careers fair at my kids school where I spent 90 minutes talking about my career in IT and answering questions from the children in year 5 & 6. The groups were split into 10 - 15 children at a time and by the 8th group I had my pitch down to a fine art. The most popular questions were: Q)What’s your favourite place to travel to with work? A)India I think and fortunately I’m back there in a couple of weeks! Q)Who’s your favourite F1 driver? A)Official answer = Lewis Hamilton but the Hexagon line is anyone driving for Red Bull Racing Q)What’s your favourite Greggs Pasty? A)Sausage and Bean melt no contest it’s the god tier bakery treat. Q)What do you earn? A)Enough to have a nice house, a nice car and the occasional nice holiday 😆 Some of my favourite questions though were: Why do you like working in IT? What do you do in a normal day and when did you decide what you wanted to do when you grew up? All great questions but the thing that really struck me was how eager the kids were to ask questions. There wasn’t one group where the questions didn’t flow and I was forced to fill the time (and people who know me well know how much I hate awkward silence and tend to babble to try and fill it). Refreshingly all kids engaged and asked questions and thankfully seemed interested in my reply! Gave me lots of hope for the future and made me think about how as a real life grown up I can learn from the engagement those kids showed in the sessions yesterday!
