#SpeakUpForSinging Undoubtedly, the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has reverberated across all facets of society. Notably, the imposition of bans or severe restrictions on singing in Canadian schools during this period has deprived students of essential music programs, which are not only instrumental in fostering musical learning but also in promoting student mental health and overall well-being. I had the privilege of participating as a research assistant in the Singing in Canadian Schools: COVID-19 Impact Survey under the guidance of @Francine Morin and the patronization of Choral Canada / Canada Choral, and I wish to express my gratitude for this invaluable opportunity. This survey facilitated engagement with music educators across Canadian schools and revealed marked variations in the restrictions on singing during the pandemic, which differed significantly among provinces and territories, as well as within regions. The insights garnered from this research endeavor provided a platform for music educators to exchange perspectives and recount their experiences concerning singing and the pandemic. The survey findings are poised to serve as a foundational resource to guide the continued advancement and enhancement of singing and music education in Canadian schools. Led by professional musicians, students engage in vocal and physical warm-ups, release their creativity with costumes and props, and even experience live music from a classical singer and accompanist. Included with the workshop is a Teachers Resource Pack—a tool designed to continue exploring opera’s rich sounds, characters, and stories in the classroom. The pack is full of activities that encourage communication, collaboration, and confidence in children as they embrace new ideas. At Albert Primary in Penarth, one pupil commented that an ABC of Opera workshop, “Made me feel calm, excited, happy, sad and relaxed. ✨Waldorf education views music as a fundamental element of education, contributing to the harmonious development of a child’s personality. According to this approach, music not only educates but also nurtures the soul and mind, fostering emotional intelligence and creative thinking. Our Waldorf school incorporate musical activities at all stages of education, starting with simple songs and melodies in early childhood and progressing to more complex instrumental and vocal pieces in the upper grades. Music in the Waldorf approach helps children express their emotions, develop auditory and rhythmic abilities, and improve coordination and motor skills. It serves as a means of fostering a sense of community and collective spirit, as many activities are conducted in groups where children learn to listen to each other and create together. Thus, music in Waldorf education is not just a subject in the curriculum, but a means for developing a well-rounded personality, capable of feeling, thinking, and creating in harmony with oneself and the surrounding world. #WaldorfEducation #MusicInEducation #HarmoniousDevelopment #EmotionalIntelligence #CreativeThinking #MusicalEducation #CommunitySpirit #ChildDevelopment #WaldorfMusic #HolisticLearning #NurturingSouls #AuditorySkills #RhythmicAbilities #GroupHarmony #waldorf #cyprus #limassol #pafos

The rivalry between Kendrick Lamar and Drake is not only a major event in the music industry, but it's also motivating young people to engage in reading, writing, and research. This is due to Hip Hop's deep potential to foster literacy and intellectual growth. With roots in African Diasporic traditions and emerging from America's hoods, Hip Hop interacts with various cultural influences and stands as a dynamic force. Albeit it doesn't exist in a vacuum. Like most art, Hip Hop imitates life. As a Master of Ceremony (MC/Emcee/Rapper), I have utilized my expertise to develop culturally relevant and engaging educational programs for students in Seattle, the Bay Area, New York, and even as far as Uganda and Argentina. Here's what I believe: rather than harshly criticizing illiteracy amongst young people, we should focus on providing experienced teachers and teaching artists with competitive wages—especially those who know how to effectively incorporate and critique Hip Hop in education. #MusicIndustry #HipHop #KendrickvsDrake #Teachers #Educators

why is raven like a writing desk? for female choir Virgo Vox Ensemble Palazzina Appiani, 11 novembre 2023 Why is a raven like a writing-desk? is the riddle that the Mad Hatter poses to the mixed group drinking tea in the woods, of which Alice happens to be a part. It happens in the VII chapter of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, one of the classics of fantasy literature that has had the greatest success in subsequent eras, giving rise to different transpositions and interpretations in different artistic languages. This composition takes inspiration from Lewis Carroll's masterpiece, setting some pieces to music and reinterpreting them. The piece is written for a choir of 6 female voices; the performance of the piece also requires the presence of an actress who plays the role of Alice. Each of the first voices represents a character in the story: Soprano I has the firm and determined character of the Queen of Hearts; Mezzo-soprano I is fearful and insecure like the King; and finally, Contralto I has the hasty and restless nature of the White Rabbit. What the music scene is proposing is an arbitrary trial, in which Alice is the defendant. why is raven like a writing desk? for female choir https://lnkd.in/desjHgpd

Why do so many PNG musicians sing mainly about women and love? 💭 While it's common for artists to sing about love and relationships (which are relatable and emotional), I think there’s so much more they could focus on! 🌍🎶 PNG is rich in culture, social issues, and unique stories. Musicians could explore themes like: Our diverse cultural heritage 🌺 Social justice, corruption, and environmental issues 🌱⚖️ Faith and spirituality 🙏 Unity and peace, especially in regions recovering from conflict 🤝 Let's encourage our talented artists to dive deeper and showcase the full spectrum of life in PNG! 🇵🇬 What do you think? I know it’s SOP for the arts to be cut when schools are looking at their budgets. Teacher salaries make up the majority of public schools’ budgets. What decision makers fail to take into account especially in music, is the music classes have a much larger teacher to student ratio typically in band, orchestra, and choir. When you cut a music class you literally have to hire more teaching staff to absorb those displaced students, so the economic benefit is diminished. But more importantly, we need ALL subjects kept in school; art, music, dance, theatre, science, math, history, english, languages, trades, life skills. Every subject is as important as the other. We need to be sure education appeals to every student, so there’s something that every student has a personal reason to come to school for.

Part 2 SASCE - ABC Motsepe Eisdtedfodd (South African Schools Choral Eistedfod) is a developmental program, For young Novice singers/Adolecent voices. Part 2: Continuation… We also need to take the developmental stages very seriously, and understand where they are and what music is best for them, and below are just different stage both a male and female adolescent voice undergo: Female adolescent voice stages/phases ● Pre- pubertal stage ● Period approaching puberty and premenstrual stage ● Puberty/Post Menarcheal stage ● Young Adult Female/Post-Menarcheal stage Cooksey (2000) explains that in the male adolescent voice we get five stages of vocal development as identified. Male adolescent voice stage/phase ● Stage I: Midvoice I, ● Stage II: Midvoice II, ● Stage III: Midvoice IIA, ● Stage IV: New Baritone ● Stage V: Settling Baritone. Once’s we have clearly defined and fully understand these concepts , I think we need to look into the music we prescribe and check if they serve the purpose of development of the adolecent voice, also known as the “changing voice” or their purpose is for semi/Professional singers to assess their abilities.

Yesterday we celebrated Juneteenth. From the painful history of the U.S, rose inspiring artists. Their footprint is well-established in our culture and music. I took this day as an opportunity to listen and learn from wonderful singers, as they performed the powerful piece "Oh Freedom". In this video, I share my listening process. This is how I carefully asses singers and determine their main vocal function- "Mode" according to CVT. How do you listen to a singer's voice? What terminology do you use? https://lnkd.in/dch6c88i
