We are becoming increasingly aware of the devastating effects of climate change on the people and communities we support. In Kenya, our programmes are centred in Voi, an area which has seen a dramatic reduction in rainfall over the past few years, impacting not only the elephants in the neighbouring national park but also people’s ability to grow crops to feed their families and/ or sell for income. In contrast, the recent devastating floods in Kenya led to many of the families our partner organisation, Dadashi, supports having their homes in the slums washed away and one of our scholars in Thika’s family house was destroyed by the floods, and he lost all his school uniform and school items. Fortunately, we were able to replace the lost school items but this is a small gesture in an otherwise disastrous situation. Schools throughout the country also reopened 2 weeks late due to the floods, causing disruption to millions of children’s education. We have also seen a dramatic increase in mentions of the effects of climate change on household incomes, leading to inability to pay school fees, in the application forms we receive. We do what we can to support those badly affected but always wish we could do more. Please donate if you can to help us help more people and communities as they battle against climate change. Every child should have access to education, yet right now over one fifth of primary school-aged children in Sub-Saharan Africa are out of school. So They Can is an international nonprofit dedicated to supporting child education in Kenya and Tanzania as a proven effective means to break the poverty cycle. Lesaffre is launching a new partnership with So They Can. We will be funding the ability for select partner schools in Tanzania to produce their own food. This will include the installation of irrigation systems that conserve water and double the yield. This initiative with So They Can fits our mission of working together to better nourish and protect the planet. Together, we can shape a future where all children are nourished, protected and empowered to thrive. #betternourishandprotecttheplanet #lesaffrena #charity #echo

We are only a few hours away until Giving Tuesday kicks off! Thanks to YOU, we’re bringing clean water, safety, and hope to more communities. With your incredible support, we’ve completed projects that are changing lives: Water Well in South Sudan – Providing clean water to those who previously had none. NCV Rwanda Fence – Protecting vulnerable children with a secure and safe space. Now, we are focusing on two projects: Clean Water for Kitongo – Phase One of a replacement/expansion water plant in Tanzania. The solar-powered pump and pipes ensures ample water from Lake Victoria for the community. (This project is nearly 100% funded by our recent Bucks for Buckaroos event) Safe Dorms for Kahunda, Mainsprings Tanzania – Building safe dormitories for orphaned children. Donor support helps make these dreams a reality. Together, we can do even more. Donate today to create lasting change: https://lnkd.in/ewzqTRZb... Thank you to the National Rural Health Alliance for sharing this important message. Some farmers across Australia, including parts of South Australia and Victoria, are facing immense challenges, such as drought and limited access to clean water. Rural Aid is committed to addressing this need by providing some farmers with free water tanks. These tanks allow farmers to collect and store essential rainwater, a vital resource during difficult times. Over the years, Rural Aid has delivered millions of litres of domestic water to farmers. The impact has been significant: 97% of recipients report improved access to quality water. 97% feel better equipped to handle future disasters and water shortages. One farmer shared: "The water tank was a great boost, not only in a practical way by having water to drink, wash, and shower, but from a mental state. It gave us a great uplifting boost, knowing that great people were helping us recover from the biggest disaster our area has ever seen. Thank you all." If you’d like to support our mission, know a farmer who could benefit from our services, or partner with us, we’d love to hear from you. Rural Aid is here to provide a helping hand whenever it’s needed—whether through practical support or a simple conversation. Remember: ‘One conversation at the right time with the right person can change everything. 💧 Farmers across rural and regional Australia are battling drought and desperately need access to fresh drinking water. Our member, Rural Aid, is stepping up to provide free water tanks to farmers in need through their incredible initiative. The Impact: -Over 250 farmers applied in the latest round, highlighting the urgent demand for this essential resource. - Rural Aid has already delivered 500+ water tanks, including a milestone 500th tank to a family in Gilgandra, NSW, in December 2024. However, the need far outweighs supply. Rural Aid can only fulfil 90 tank requests this round and is calling on generous Australians to help bridge the gap. Every donation helps ensure more families have the security of clean water. Your support could make all the difference. Donate today and help provide this life-saving resource to families who need it most: www.ruralaid.org.au Let’s work together to bring hope and resilience to our farmers and communities. #RuralAid #WaterForFarmers #SupportRuralAustralia #RuralHealth #FarmersFirst

What does Earth Day mean to you? For us at Solar United Madagascar it means supporting remote rural communities that live below the poverty line of $2/day, working with them to install light libraries no schools. Solar panels charge power banks which are charges at schools each day and taken home by students. We take light for granted. Don’t think about flicking that switch. What if we had to conduct all our evening activities by a single candlelight and a toxic kerosene lamp. If we struggled to afford candles or kerosene and had to eke out how long we would let them burn to save money? That’s the difference the light libraries make. To homework, food preparation, weaving and fixing fishing nets, health and safety…. This is why Solar United Madagascar are participating in the Big Give #GreenMatchFund fundraising campaign to get #solarpower into schools in rural #Madagascar. Any donations made through The Big Give portal before April 25th 12 noon UK time will be DOUBLED thanks to the generous match of The Reed Foundation. Alicia Nirina would love it (and soe do we) if you could help us reach more schools and kids like her https://lnkd.in/ejS-sY56

I don't think i've ever posted anything on LinkedIn before, so I hope you enjoy my debut. Despite what my linked in profile may tell you about me, there is more to my life than a spotted career in IT contracting. For the last 10 years, amongst the various IT jobs I was working at the time, I have been fundraising to build drinking water pipelines in rural Nepali communities. This became a registered charity, The Bimiri Foundation, in 2018. Since then we have finished our first major project, a 1.6km pipeline into the village of Bimiri, with a tap for each of the 112 houses there. The source is a 100m water fall feeding into a nearby river, we built an intake tank in a cavern half way up the waterfall, support mounts at each side of the river then a 10,000 litre tank on the opposite side of the river from the waterfall, with a pump submerged. We then laid around 800m of GI pipe up the mountain, to another tank and another pump then up another much steeper 700m stretch of mountain where we have our main reservoir tank, at the highest point above the village. From that tank, gravity does it's work and we have a mainline pipe running through the village and off to every home. Nowadays nearly every household keeps a buffalo, which they milk and earn an income from. They couldn't keep buffalo before there was water in the village because on average a buffalo will drink around 150 litres of water per day. So unless you have a lot of women in your family (it is normally always the women that carry water), then you can't feasibly be carrying that much water up the hill. The average daily income of a labourer in Nepal is around £4.07 a day. A first line IT tech in the capital might make £10 a day. The average buffalo is providing around £5.10 a day worth of milk. By just providing the village with a water supply, they are able to generate an income for themselves and climb slowly out of the multi-dimensional poverty that they are in. With the income they can make from livestock, and money they can save at market by being able to grow the vegetables they eat, these villagers will now be able to afford better education for their children and within a generation there will be monumental impact. We're now on to the next village. We built our intake tank in January 2024 an since then i've been trying to raise the funds for 1250m of pipe which will connect the tank we have just finished to a government tank above the village which was built about 5 years ago and still has never been used. Last week we hit the target for the mainline pipe, £6500. Over the next few weeks, 250m individual pieces of pipe will be welded together and laid up the steep Himalayan terrain. And more about what Waterstep does!
This week, we were asked to bring our lifesaving equipment and programs to one of the most desperate places on earth. 💧 UNICEF and AVUDS have asked WaterStep to help fill the gaps in the largest camps of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees in the world. 7 million people struggle in this Eastern Congo region to access safe water, sanitation and basic hygiene. “I came here because I fled the war. And the major problem I have is the lack of water. Sometimes, we run out of water for two days,” said Kanyaruchinya camp resident and new mother, Cleménce Mitina. 🎥 WaterStep V.P. of Programs, Zac Tossou talks with Cleménce and AVUDS staff in our most recent YouTube channel video: https://lnkd.in/eC39dHai There’s no better time to give to WaterStep so we can help the most desperate among us. Help us turn thirst into hope. Not tomorrow, but today. Please consider donating today. 💙 #WaterStep #UNICEF #AVUDS #RefugeeCamp #CongoRegion #SafeWater #Sanitation #Hygiene #DonateNow #HumanitarianAid #WaterStep

I am participating in Walk for Water and I would love for you to consider donating. Why have I chosen to participate? WaterAid Australia was established to improve the lives of people currently living without clean water, decent toilets or good hygiene. This goal is also shared by the United Nations (SDG6). Holovision and Watkins Steel work with many of WaterAid Australia's "Water Leaders", helping to deliver critical infrastructure projects to the growing Australian population. While working on upgrades at live sewerage treatment plants might not be the most desirable environment to work, the health outcomes for the Australian community are undeniable. 8 weeks ago, my cousin called to tell me that my uncle was in hospital in a critical condition; he did not survive another 24 hours. For those who don't know, half my family lives in PNG, where access to basic human needs is a privilege. On the 21st March 2024, the World Bank published an article which stated: "In Papua New Guinea, only 40% of people have access to safe drinking water, one of the lowest rates in the Pacific Islands. Women and girls of school age generally assume the burden of water collection for their families." Additionally the World Health Organization estimates that there are only 0.5 nurses per 1000 people in PNG, a number that is 29 times lower than here in Australia. Needless to say, the outcome of my uncles condition may have been different if he had the same access to basic needs as what we do here in Australia. If you aren't in the position to donate, I would love for you to follow my 5 days of walking/running next week. #walkforwater #charity #impact #cleanwater #future
