A planning application the height of 5 double decker buses. £300 million has been spent on 359,000 pages of planning application for the Lower Thames Crossing. Yet it could be scrapped as part of measures to plug the £22 billion "black hole" in government funding. Cancellation of such a major infrastructure project has knock-on effects across the construction industry as major players spread risk across their supply chain. But with the project already costing more "than it cost Norway to not only build the world’s longest road tunnel (the Laerdal tunnel), but also the world’s deepest subsea road tunnel", the Lower Thames Crossing could be a bridge too far. #construction #infrastructure #projectmanagement #constructioncontracts #supplychain

🌊 In partnership with North Point Development, the Port of Coos Bay is pursuing three federal grants to advance the Pacific Coast Intermodal Port (PCIP) project. This initiative includes: 🚢 Deepening and widening the Coos Bay Federal Navigation Channel 🚂 Upgrading the Coos Bay Rail Line 🏗️ Constructing a rail-served maritime terminal on the North Spit The project aims to enhance planning and design by focusing on multiple grants. North Point Development will lead the construction of a modern, electrified terminal with integrated rail facilities, promoting efficiency and reducing emissions. The PCIP emphasizes climate resilience, with full electrification and a preference for rail over road transport to ease highway congestion and lower global greenhouse gas emissions. “Importers and exporters are seeking additional U.S. port capacity,” said Brianna Hanson, VP of the port’s board. “Resilient infrastructure is essential for timely delivery of American goods. Recent global events highlight the critical need for supply chain resilience.” https://lnkd.in/gHGHsxe7 #PortOfCoosBay #infrastructure #climateresilience #sustainabledevelopment #FederalGrants #northbendoregon

In large-scale redevelopment initiatives, it is essential to have a single, unified leadership team, akin to an orchestra directed by one conductor, ensuring that all components align with a clear vision of the final objective. When this structure is absent, the project risks inefficiencies and unresolved issues, including: Infrastructure Development: Who takes responsibility for investing in and managing the costly initial infrastructure to build momentum and attract stakeholders? Public Works Standards: Who establishes and sustains a stable public works department to maintain common areas at a level comparable to standards set by previous stewards? Timely Repairs: Who ensures immediate attention to basic but critical needs, such as repairing potholes on roads that have been neglected for months? For success, a single, decisive leader or entity must embrace the entire spectrum of responsibilities, addressing both opportunities and challenges without selective engagement (cherry-picking). This includes integrating an experienced local government engineering team dedicated to the inspection and oversight of rapidly advancing projects. In 2014, the Puerto Rican government sought to address the redevelopment of Roosevelt Roads Naval Station by partnering with Clark Realty as the master developer. However, the agreement fell apart due to fiscal challenges and logistical complications. Since then, numerous redevelopment strategies have been proposed and initiated, though many have failed to fully deliver on their promises, underscoring the need for cohesive, visionary leadership in such undertakings. #CeibaGreenCity #PuertoRico #RooseveltRoads #SolarEnergy #EnergyFoodFarm #CaribbeanFloatingGem
