Commanding Respect as a Young LGBTQ Founder As a 21-year-old LGBTQ founder, I share how I earned respect without waiting for anyone to hand it to me. I explain that respect is not given, but commanded. From the start, I set the tone, showed up with clear direction, and people followed. My confidence was evident in my words and actions. When faced with criticism or doubt, I kept my cool and walked away from conversations that didn’t serve me. I never asked for approval and positioned myself as valuable, making it clear that I had what clients needed. Age doesn’t determine your value - you do. #LGBTQ #Entrepreneurship #Confidence #Respect #ValueYourself #entrepreneurtips #selfbelief

Happy International Pronouns Day! It’s important to recognize that pronouns are not only related to queer people; they matter for everyone. What exactly would bother you about adding your pronouns? What would you lose? Straight individuals and those who are not part of the LGBTQ+ community shouldn’t feel scared of this conversation. Pronouns are not restricted to the LGBTQ+ community, they are relevant to all humans. If you have concerns about it, you are free to express your opinion, but consider the impact of language on others. A key influence in rethinking this was Judith Butler, a gender studies theorist. In Gender Trouble (1990), Butler explains how language shapes identity, suggesting that gender isn’t something we simply "have," but rather something we "perform" through our words and actions. From this perspective, pronouns play a central role in recognizing and respecting people’s identities. Butler argues that language has the power to affirm or deny identity, making the use of correct pronouns a simple yet meaningful way to show respect. As I learned more about inclusion, I began to see the importance of honoring everyone’s chosen pronouns. Adding "he/him" became a small but significant way to foster a welcoming environment where people can feel seen. 🤔 Have you ever wondered what GAYDAR is? 🏳️🌈 Within LGBTQ+ culture, gaydar is seen as a sense of connection or mutual understanding. 👉 In other words, queer people have a supposed capacity to recognize and identify each other, usually based on institutions or very slight indications. ❌ Nonetheless, away from that concept, gaydar turns out to be a stereotype in disguise, which means that some straight individuals use it as a cover for their gender prejudices, for the so-called right to label someone. ❌ Take a man who wears makeup for example, some people see him and jump to the conclusion that he is gay. 👉 Don’t assume, just ask! 🏳️🌈 Do you want to dive deeper into this compelling topic? Check out our freshly released episode 6!!! #pridecast #YSEALI #summitgrant #USEmbassy #DEI #LGBTQ #SoutheastAsia ------------------- ► PrideCast: Voices of Diversity is a podcast series sponsored by YSEALI Summit 2023 and the US Embassy in Jakarta. ► This project is part of the YSEALI Summit 2023 "A Decade of YSEALI Small Grants" ► Contact us: pridecast.2204@gmail.com

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month, it's important to reflect on the state of LGBTQ+ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in India. Significant progress has been made in recent years, from the decriminalization of Section 377 in 2018 to growing awareness and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights across various sectors. However, there is still much work to be done. True inclusion goes beyond legal recognition—it requires creating safe, supportive, and equitable environments where LGBTQ+ individuals can thrive. Companies in India are beginning to embrace LGBTQ+ DEI, implementing policies and initiatives to support their LGBTQ+ employees. This includes anti-discrimination policies, inclusive health benefits, and creating employee resource groups. Yet, challenges remain. Social stigma, lack of awareness, and resistance to change can hinder progress. It's crucial for businesses, leaders, and allies to continue advocating for LGBTQ+ inclusion, fostering a culture of acceptance and respect. Let's use this Pride Month as an opportunity to celebrate our progress and commit to furthering LGBTQ+ DEI in India. Together, we can create workplaces and communities where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feels valued and included. #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #DEI #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity #PrideInIndia #LGBTQInclusion #PragatiLeadership

How does an LGBTQ+ safe space make you feel? 🏳️🌈✈️ Until you are in one you don’t quite realise how much you hold back and question things. Being in a safe space gives you the freedom to express yourself, visually with what you wear, verbally, physically (e.g holding hands) etc without having to second guess yourself. Honestly it’s a relief to let all those worries go. This is one of the reasons why more spaces in travel need to look at how they can take away the guesswork for LGBTQ+ people as to whether they are in a safe space or not….. #lgbtq #travel #influencer #marketing

LGBTQ+ founders outperform, yet many don't feel comfortable sharing their sexual & gender identity. The fear of discrimination is not unfounded, and for women and gender minorities the bias is profound. Allies can take concrete steps to support the community: - Publicly show support for LGBTQ+ founders. - Have your team share your pronouns publicly. - Quantify DEI metrics in your fund. - Undertake training and honest discussions internally led by senior leadership. - Hire more diverse investment teams. #VentureCapital #LGBTQ #Entrepreneurship #Inclusion #DiversityMatters #DEI #venturefunding #startup
