I was fortunate to be part of the team at Primus Partners India who worked on this study on cooperatives, which are integral to the #Agriculture ecosystem in India. The study included inputs from Vilas Shinde (Founder, CEO of Sahyadri Farms , one of the most successful farmer cooperatives), Sanjiv Kanwar (India Head, Yara International), Roshan Lal Tamak (CEO, DCM Shriram LTD sugar business), Dipali Rastogi (Principal Secretary, Govt of MP), and Dr Hema Yadav (Director, Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management ). We believe cooperatives have the potential to create up to 55 million direct jobs and 56 million self-employment-opportunities by 2030. Our recommendations, to make this happen, are: Having a great leader, and hence capacity building, is critical. To cultivate more leaders like Vilas Shinde of Sahyadri, government should impart management skills as well as digital skills through NCCT, KVKs, etc. Government should set up a National Cooperative Mission, and a common logo for cooperatives-driven products. For Market Access, ONDC integration should happen; Janani marketplace should be set up, and we need ODOC (one district one cooperative) scheme For making financing easier, we recommend PSL (Priority sector lending) to direct schemes to cooperatives, as well as setting up a “cooperative financing program” We also recommend extending RBI oversight to all cooperative banks and setting up a National Cooperative Tribunal for addressing grievances Download our report from https://lnkd.in/g-tcKzaB Hope you find this useful. Do share any feedback you may have on the report.

As India marches towards being the 3rd largest economy in the world, the Cooperative sector and Farmer Produce Organizations would play a key role in ensuring equitable growth and wealth creation across the country. One name which stands out in transforming the lives of small landholding farmers is Sahyadri Farms, which has grown from being the initiative of four (4) smallholder farmers led by Vilas Shinde into the leading fruits & vegetable export company servicing over 18,000 registered farmers. His dynamic leadership and drive and transformed the lives of multiple farmers and is an example which can be replicated in other places. Primus Partners India has published its report on the Cooperative sector in India, which can be the growth engine of the country and provide 56 Million Self-Employment Opportunity by 2030. For this vision to be achieved, we need more such success stories such as Sahyadri Farms. The report carries commentaries from senior leaders from the Government and private sector and highlights clear and comprehensive recommendations for the sector. This initiative in the UK successfully reduced unnecessary regulatory burdens, paving the way for smoother business operations and fostering an environment conducive to economic growth. Similarly, Indian states that have embraced these principles have witnessed significant improvements. By streamlining regulations, digitizing processes, and fostering transparency, they've not only attracted more investments but have also empowered their citizens. The implications for citizens are profound: 1. Increased Job Opportunities: Simplified regulations lead to the rapid growth of new businesses, which in turn creates more jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities. 2. Enhanced Public Services: A reduction in bureaucratic hurdles ensures faster, more efficient public service delivery, directly benefiting citizens. 3. Economic Growth: A business-friendly environment encourages local and foreign investments, driving economic growth and improving the standard of living. Kudos to the states that are leading by example, showing that reducing red tape is not just about businesses—it's about empowering citizens and building a prosperous future for all! As of the latest rankings, the top Indian states excelling in Ease of Doing Business (EODB) are: 1.
