Not the 3–0 I predicted but are we being too harsh on England? Let’s look at the facts/positives: 1.      We have won the group 2.      Every other team in our group were happy to draw 3.      Slovenia and Denmark will go through without winning a game 4.      We are the only team to get a win in the group. 5.      The only group where there was just 1 game won 6.      We now get to play a 3rd place team in the last 16 7.      Followed by a 2nd place team in the quarters 8.      We won’t face a group winner until the semi-final 9.      We avoid Spain, Germany, Portugal and France until the final 10.   No one is singing “It’s coming home” 11.   I'm still backing England to win the Euros! 😮 Does anyone agree with this? Congratulations to Spain and commiserations to England. With their 4th win in Euros history Spain are now the most successful nation ever since the Euros started. Spain were deserved winners, I’m sure most of us will agree. So many situations in sport, business and life become about either winning or losing. Winning, unfortunately for many, has become the only acceptable choice (just think of the English media for example). We can fail to accept that every contest can create both winners and losers. It is a problem at every level. Including sport and business. When you strive hard in anything in life, you will win some contests and lose others. Often the difference between winning and losing is marginal. Therefore, winning does not give you the right to trample the loser. Losing should not devastate you either. Show humility in winning and dignity upon losing. Losing is an outcome that exists with each of our efforts for winning. If we lose now, we can win later. If we fail here, we can succeed somewhere else. Overcoming the loss means winning eventually on another day in another situation perhaps. When someone is unsuccessful in their attempt to win I do not consider them as a “loser”; only that they did not make it this time. Sometimes it’s just not your day. And know when to walk away with dignity. There will be other days and other opportunities to try and win again. #business #sport #life #football #euro2024

WHY SPAIN WON AND ENGLAND DIDN’T England showed heart. Commitment. Effort. And coming in second to the strongest team in the tournament is FANTASTIC! 🥳 Especially given the “ups and downs” in Englands performance… And Spain’s sweep of the other teams. Do I think substitutions perhaps 5-10 minutes earlier could have swung the final our way? Yes. Yes I do. Just like everyone watching (I’ve never played football in my life) - I still had a theory! 😂 Actually being in the thick of it, under the pressure, all 👀 on you, is different. Then what you need is…. CONFIDENCE! It was clear that at times England - though committed and trying hard - didn’t always look confident Whereas Spain believed the trophy was theirs and they acted like it the whole tournament. Whatever your opinions on Gareth Southgate - who I personally think has done a great job galvanising the team - the lads were CLEARLY all in it TOGETHER 🥰 Perhaps we now need someone more “ambitious”- I’ll leave that to the commentators who actually know what they are talking about 😜 but I think he’s done amazing The last point about confidence is - you don’t realise how much to counts until you realise… it’s not there When was the last time you realised “ohhh…. I’m not feeling very confident about this?” 😬 Start monitoring your confidence levels. Who helps you top them up? Who knocks them down? What’s feeling easy and what’s feeling tough? Euros predictions by our Co-Founder, Pardeep ⚽️🌪️ England or France to win but France will come out on top 🏆 Why? One man. N’Golo Kante. He’s back, he looks fresh. This is frightening. England could take it but Gareth Southgate needs to take better risks. His team selection, substitutions and tactics are the biggest danger to what is an incredibly good team individually. Portugal’s second string squad is strong enough to win. Absolutely frightening squad. Germany will be dangerous as it’s their home ground but they have very young and much older players who are their best players. That might mean they don’t have the edge. Spain are dangerous. Spain with Morata as captain is the kind of weird move that wins competitions. Austria as dark horses. Strong team with intense pressing style. Italy are a cup team. Sometimes you have to let someone else’s dream die for yours to live… In 2014, Germany beat Brazil 7-1 in the World Cup semi-finals. Brazil was predicted to win the championship. Due to have strong their team was. For many compounding reasons, Germany pulled off the win against the favored team. Brazil’s dream died so that Germany’s could live. This doesn’t mean that Brazil never won again, but this does mean that sometimes you have to have a break down to have a break through. If you find yourself where Brazil has been the last few years, keep pushing! Your wins will come! If you find yourself where Germany was, celebrate, but also keep pushing! Who else thinks England was lucky to have qualified for the next round? Certainly, Slovakia was very unfortunate to lose that game with just a few seconds on the clock. So far, the Three Lions have never had a dominant display throughout the entire campaign. They have enjoyed flash moments of individual brilliance from the crop of quality players they have. However, time will tell how far it will get them especially when they begin to face super star nations like Germany, Spain, France, and Portugal. Personally, I think Southgate is yet to figure out how to use the players. Jude playing as a number 10 is not great. Just because a player scores goals does not make him fit to play that number 10 role. He didn't play number 10 in Madrid. Before you come at me, I'll use Scot Mc Tonimay as an example. He scored many goals last season for both club and country. But that does not qualify him to play in the number 10 role because he is a bad passer of the ball. Another player being underutilized is Trippier and Foden. Trippier has more balance than Trent. When teh team is attacking, he is a perfect crosser of the ball, unlike Walker. Sadly, there are no contributions from either flank because Walker cannot deliver good crosses, and Trippier is handicapped when playing as a LB. Similarly, Foden playing on the left wing is completely out of place. His performance so far says it all. He should be playing the number 10 role, while a natural right-footer comes from the left. These are the experiments South Gate should have done during friendly, and when playing smaller teams. Now, let's see how far the team survives. Switzerland may not have the same level of superstars as England, but they surely have the determination and composure we have seen so far in their performances. Will England survive the next round? Yesterday, England Edged Past Slovakia to qualify for the QuarterFinals in what can be described as a dramatic win. Slovakia scored in the 26th minute leading England to toil all through to the 90th minute when Real Madrid's star-boy [Jude Bellingham] equalized with an amazing Bicycle kick. England went ahead to win the match in the extra time. First Half of 2024 ended yesterday and second half begins Today! How well did you do in the first half? Did you meet the expectations that you set for yourself? Did your business do as well as you projected? Even if the answer is “No”, don’t beat yourself - Just like England in Euro 2024, You still have the second half to play and with good strategy - You can still Win. But let's move past the blame game, the point score of wrongs and the disappointment. We now understand the combination of problem(s). Is it financial? Is it management? Is it decision making? Is it crowdsourcing of suggestions? Whatever it is, as a iTaukei and avid fan of the Flying Fijians, I wish to raise my hand and point out 'contract management'. We can't be relying solely and wholeheartedly on the goodwill of the people at FRU. As I've heard the expression "kaiViti levu na loloma lailai na dina". You must be able to negotiate before the contracts are signed. It's part of fair play which is based on the principles of fairness and justice. Then follow through as the powers, duties and responsibilities are performed. Attend to the due performance of the terms and conditions of the contract. Sports science is a discipline on its own. But contract management must be left to us who have donned a rugby jersey, put on a pair of rugby boots and understands the dynamics of rugby at professional level, with insurance involved, property, or promises not delivered, or non-disclosure clauses, sports endorsements, etc. Rugby in Viti has to develop.
