Finding a "foot-in-the-door" job in aviation while you build time can be a great way to be in the right place at the right time. Almost every small town has a small FBO; larger cities will have a few. Most often the people running these places are some of the nicest people...my husband and I fly into small FBO's around the country often. Here are some examples of jobs you might find at FBO's near you: 1. Airport/Operations Manager - they run the show and often also mow! - Oversee daily operations of the FBO. - Manage staff and coordinate with other departments. - Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. 2. Customer Service Representative (CSR) - Assist customers with inquiries and provide information about services. - Coordinate ground transportation, catering, and other services for passengers and crew. - Handle reservations and scheduling. 3. Line Service Technician or Ground Support - Refuel aircraft and perform routine maintenance checks. - Marshal aircraft and assist with parking. - Operate ground support equipment. 4. Ramp Agent - Load and unload luggage and cargo. - Ensure safe and efficient aircraft turnaround. - Assist with aircraft de-icing and other ground support tasks. 5. Fuel Farm Technician - Manage fuel inventory and ensure quality control. - Maintain fueling equipment and storage facilities. - Perform fuel sampling and testing. 6. Pilot Services Coordinator - Arrange accommodations, transportation, and other amenities for flight crews. - Provide flight planning assistance and access to crew lounges. - Ensure pilots have necessary resources and support. 7. Aircraft Detailer - Clean and detail aircraft interiors and exteriors. - Apply protective coatings and perform cosmetic repairs. - Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. These roles are essential to the smooth operation of an FBO, ensuring high levels of service and safety for all clients. You also never know who you could meet while working around piots/planes 😎
