The circular economy is becoming more important in our daily lives, and it’s something that’s even taught in schools today. Making the most of the raw materials we already have just makes sense - appreciating and reusing what we’ve already created. Pääkaupunkiseudun Kierrätyskeskus Oy / Helsinki Metropolitan Area Reuse Centre Ltd has been operating within the circular economy since 1990. I had the opportunity to interview them about their operations and how EKOenergy ecolabel fits into that picture. You can read the full discussion here: https://lnkd.in/dWMZDmBx As you read, consider: - What are the most effective tactics for changing behavior towards sustainability? - At what point does the circular economy begin in our everyday lives? - How does our current production and consumption model challenge sustainability efforts? - What is the market position of climate-neutral or fossil-free energy, and why doing more makes sense?

When we think of sustainability, carbon emissions often come to mind first. But at Green Cloud Nine, we believe it’s about so much more. Environmental sustainability means examining our impact across the entire ecosystem—from how we use resources to how we shape our supply chains. ♻️✨ Here are a few of the key areas I believe every company, big or small, should focus on for lasting impact: 🔌💧 Resource Efficiency – It starts with using energy, water, and materials wisely. ♻ Circular Economy – Moving from “use and dispose” to reusing, recycling, and reimagining waste. 🌿 Biodiversity Protection – Preserving ecosystems for a sustainable, healthy future. 🚛🌿 Sustainable Supply Chains – Ensuring our environmental values extend beyond our walls. At Green Cloud Nine, we’re committed to creating lasting change by embedding these principles into everything we do. Small changes lead to big results, and every step forward matters. 💚 Is your business on the right path? Let’s make sustainability the new standard. 🌱 #GreenCloudNine #Sustainability #EnvironmentalImpact #CircularEconomy #EcoFriendlyBusiness #ClimateAction

Environmental Sustainability: More Than Reducing Emissions When we think of environmental sustainability, carbon emissions are often the first thing that comes to mind. But sustainability is much broader—it’s about how businesses interact with the entire ecosystem. 🌍♻️ Here are a few key areas every company should focus on: 1.🔌💧 Resource Efficiency: Sustainability starts with how companies use resources. From energy to water, to raw materials, businesses can significantly reduce their environmental footprint by minimising waste and optimizing resource use. For example: Implementing energy-efficient processes or water recycling systems can reduce costs and environmental impact simultaneously. And this is not only relevant for industrial companies, even if you are a small startup or a freelancer working from home, there are many little things that you can consider to optimise your resource usage. 2. ♻ Circular Economy: Instead of the traditional “take-make-dispose” model, sustainable businesses adopt a circular approach. That means designing products and services that minimise waste by reusing, recycling, or remanufacturing materials. 🔄 And the best of all, companies that embrace circular principles not only reduce environmental impact but also create new revenue streams by rethinking their product lifecycle. They turn trash into treasure!! 💰 3.🌿 Biodiversity and Ecosystem Protection: Beyond reducing emissions, businesses need to assess their impact on the natural environment. From land use to the protection of biodiversity, because preserving ecosystems is a critical part of long-term environmental sustainability. 🌱🦋 A great way to implement this is by partnering with local communities to protect natural habitats that help maintain biodiversity while also enhancing your company’s social license to operate. 4. 🚛🌿 Supply Chain Sustainability: A company’s environmental impact doesn’t end with its own operations. From sourcing materials to the transportation of goods, sustainability needs to be embedded in every aspect of the supply chain. Are your suppliers aligned with your environmental goals? A tipycal example would be engaging suppliers to use sustainable materials or transportation methods that can significantly reduce your indirect environmental impact. 🌿 Environmental sustainability is more than just compliance—it's about ensuring long-term business success in harmony with nature. Businesses that embrace this mindset can build resilience, reduce costs, and enhance their reputation. In my experience developing sustainability strategies, I have found that even small changes can lead to major results. Whether it’s cutting down on energy use or rethinking product design, companies have the power to make a real impact. 💪 Is your business taking the right steps toward environmental sustainability? Let me know if you need a hand! #environmentalstrategy #supplychain #emissions #resourceeficiency #circulareconomy

Sustainability is more than just a buzzword—it's an imperative for our future. 🌿 As global citizens and professionals, it's crucial that we integrate sustainable practices into every facet of our lives and businesses. Why should we care about sustainability? 🌍 **Planetary Health**: Our planet's well-being is directly linked to our actions. From deforestation to plastic pollution, every unsustainable practice has a ripple effect on ecosystems, wildlife, and climates worldwide. 💡 **Innovation & Growth**: Embracing sustainability drives innovation. Companies that prioritize eco-friendly practices are finding new, efficient ways to operate, creating opportunities for growth and development. 👥 **Community & Culture**: A sustainable approach fosters community and cultural resilience. By prioritizing locally-sourced materials, reducing waste, and supporting ethical practices, we strengthen the fabric of society. How can we make a difference? 🔄 **Circular Economy**: Shift from a 'take-make-dispose' model to one where resources are reused and recycled continually. This reduces waste and minimizes environmental impact. 🌱 **Green Energy**: Invest in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. Transitioning to green energy reduces carbon emissions and lessens our dependence on finite resources. 📦 **Sustainable Supply Chains**: Ensure our supply chains are transparent and ethically sound. This means fair labor practices, reducing carbon footprints, and utilizing sustainable materials. 🏢 **Eco-friendly Business Practices**: Encourage businesses to adopt green certifications, use sustainable office supplies, and reduce their energy consumption. Let's not forget the power of individual action. ✔️ **Reduce, Reuse, Recycle**: Adopt the 3Rs in your daily life. Simple actions like reducing single-use plastic, reusing products, and recycling can have a massive impact. 🛒 **Conscious Consumerism**: Support brands that prioritize sustainability. Your purchasing power can push companies to adopt more responsible practices. 🚶♀️ **Choose Sustainable Transportation**: Walking, cycling, carpooling, or using public transit can significantly reduce your carbon footprint. Remember, sustainability is not a destination but a journey. Each step, no matter how small, moves us toward a more sustainable future. Let's work hand-in-hand, inspire each other, and hold ourselves accountable. With collective effort, we can create a world where people and the planet thrive together. 🌱🚀 Here's to making sustainability not just an option, but the norm. 💪💚 #Sustainability #GreenFuture #EcoFriendly #Innovation #CommunityImpact

Our 6 Step Sustainability Action Plan is helping companies hit their green goals. And you don't need massive budgets or complex strategies. You just need to decide to take that first step. Sustainability shouldn’t be complicated. Here’s how we’re making it simple. Use this 6-step plan to get started today: 1. Make a list of all the areas in which you could reduce your carbon footprint. Gather a small team and brainstorm ideas. Look at the 5 key areas of energy, waste, events, travel and water usage. Of course, you may have your other categories that resonate. Come up with a list of '3 green goals' for each category. 2. Engage your staff by telling them your goals and asking them to contribute ideas. 3. For each 'green goal', list the strategies (including time lines) needed to reach those goals. 4. Determine a budget to spend towards your 'green goals'. It might just be time rather than money that needs to be set aside in the early stages. 5. Review at regular intervals. Keep asking for input from your staff. 6. Share your journey to engage customers and employees. And celebrate your eco-wins. We’ve partnered with companies like Pana Chocolate, GJ Gardner, Michelin Tyres, and SpecSavers to make sustainability a core part of their brand identity. We can help your company too. This is a business fable about making sustainability simpler in a company. Once upon a time, there was a company named GreenScape. GreenScape was known for its ambitious sustainability goals, but the path to achieving them was cluttered with complex policies and procedures. Employees were lost in the labyrinth of sustainability jargon, unable to see the forest for the trees. Enter Adam, a young and vibrant sustainability officer with a vision. He saw that the complexity of GreenScape's sustainability efforts was stifling progress. He believed that simplifying these efforts could spark a revolution within the company. Adam began by stripping away the layers of complexity. He replaced the lengthy sustainability manuals with a single-page guide that outlined three simple actions every employee could take to make a difference. He organised workshops that turned complex concepts into engaging stories, helping his colleagues understand the 'why' behind the 'what.' As the days passed, a transformation swept through GreenScape. The employees, once burdened by the weight of sustainability, now carried it as a badge of honor. The simple actions Adam introduced became habits, and these habits sparked innovative ideas. The company's carbon footprint shrank, and its reputation as a sustainability leader grew. The fable of GreenScape and Adam became a legend in the corporate world. It was a tale of how simplicity can be the seed from which great change blossoms. It showed that when sustainability is made simple, it becomes powerful—a force that can move not just a company, but the world towards a greener future. And so, GreenScape's journey became a beacon, illuminating the path for others to follow. The moral of the story was clear: make sustainability simple, and watch it transform your company from the inside out. The End.

♻️ Sustainability is when everyone talks about it. But it's even more sustainable when everyone understands it. ♻️ With this in mind, our Corporate Sustainability Day at cosnova was a great success. It's not often that we get all of our colleagues together for an entire day to bring them up to speed on a single topic. But when it came to sustainability, this was not only necessary but also desirable. With a mix of presentations from our management team, input from experts and retail partners and a small exhibition of our teams' projects, we had everything we needed to convey the necessity, urgency and opportunities of sustainability. I am particularly grateful to our two members of the Executive Board, Yvonne Wutzler and Mathias Delor, for remaining honest in their keynote speech at the opening of our very own CSD. Sustainability involves effort. Goals are constantly changing. We will never be “finished”. But that makes it all the more important that we keep an eye on the big picture and are constantly aware of where we stand. It is therefore only logical that we at cosnova are committed to both the CSRD reporting obligation and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDD). I wrote about this a while ago 👉 https://lnkd.in/egeFdh7f Inspiration and a classification of current and larger trends was provided by Oona Horx Strathern from the Zukunftsinstitut GmbH, who introduced us to the “Blue Economy”. However, the real surprise was the great interest in the exhibition of our projects, some of which colleagues have been cultivating for a long time in connection with our sustainability efforts. This in turn showed me two things very clearly: ☝️ Just because the topic of sustainability in all its facets is our daily bread and butter from within the division doesn't mean the same is true for our colleagues from other areas of the company. Being able to pick them up and communicate what we have been doing successfully for years was great to see. ✌️ On the other hand, it was particularly exciting to take a look at our future projects. One example of this is our collaboration with Makersite, presented by Fei Lu. Through the creation of digital twins of our products on their platform, makersite will enable us to have product carbon footprints and LCAs available in real-time at the tip of our fingernails. Showing what impact our products are currently having, how adjustments can be made and what this means in terms of becoming more sustainable. That was worth its weight in gold. - Makersite will definitely be with me and you for a while yet and as soon as we have completed the go-live date, there will be an update. Thanks again to everyone who made our Corporate Sustainability Day possible. 10 out of 10 - gladly again!
