🍎 Apple to unveil AI-enabled Safari tl;dr: Apple is on the brink of releasing Safari 18, a browser that integrates AI capabilities directly into its core functionality. This version promises not only enhanced browsing but also a more secure and personalized online experience. * * * 🍏 Apple is gearing up to launch Safari 18, a browser that promises to upgrade the way we interact with the web. The upgrade to Safari 18 isn't just a new sleek design or improved performance; it's the integration of AI that elevates the browsing experience to new heights (or to similar heights as Safari’s competitors?). Apple's LLM (Look, Learn, and Model) software, which powers Safari 18, plays a pivotal role in this advancement. LLM identifies key phrases, explains complex structures, and offers text summarization capabilities - all in real-time. These early indications suggest that Apple is not just competing; it's aiming at setting a new standard for what we should expect from our browsers. Safari 18 will also include “Web Eraser”, which allows users to remove unwanted content from any webpage with ease. It is rumored to offer persistent and customizable ad-blocking, image removal, text erasure - all at the tip of your fingers. And then there's a new AI-powered search called “Intelligent Search”. How intelligent? We’ll know soon. 🚀 We’re seeing more and more browsers offer AI functionality - let’s see if Apple’s features will reach mass adoption. #AI #Apple #Safari #Innovation #Browser

Read this 2011 quote from Bill Gurley in the context of Meta's open source strategy in AI. It is so illustrative. “Android, as well as Chrome and Chrome OS for that matter, are not products in the classic business sense. They have no plan to become their own economic castles. Rather, they are very expensive and very aggressive moats, funded by the height and magnitude of Google’s castle “ (which is Google Search and Ads) Original blog here - https://lnkd.in/dgdrjsj2

Google pays Apple $20 billion yearly to secure its position as the default search engine on the Safari browser. The DOJ's push for Alphabet (Google's parent) to divest its Chrome web browser business coincides with OpenAI's strategic move to introduce SearchGPT and venture into the browser market (Chrome and Safari currently dominate 80% of the browser market share.)

So much to unpack with Apple's WWDC, think this could be the first signs of the impact AI (and their other updates) can have on ecosystems: 1. Business emails to the new Mail app is going to be interesting (mailshots) 2. Rectangles app in MacOS is likely going the journey 3. Grammarly uptake on MacOS 4. Push notification uptake 5. Schema can likely be ineffective against the new AI language models 6. Big shots against Lastpass and Keeper 7. Affiliate sites are likely going to take a massive hit, especially the how-to style videos for MacOS as now can be done natively 8. Productivity apps 9. It wasn't too long ago that I got myself the MacBook Air M1 and thought, "Wow, small, light, compact, and perfectly sufficient performancewise for my tasks." It was a personal milestone in my computing experience. The developments in the field of computing and artificial intelligence in recent years can only be described as extremely exponential. Whether it's large language models or computer hardware, everything is evolving faster and faster, and you feel overwhelmed by this pace. There are moments when you think, "Wow, how is this possible?" and you can't stop delving into the topic. An example of this is https://bolt.new. Bolt.New is a very advanced tool that allows you to create apps just through prompts, from building the backend/frontend to deployment. Of course it is not perfect yet, but with the current pace i am confident it will reach maturity very soon. Now, the ingenious YouTuber Cole Medin https://lnkd.in/eXVT4zEr has created a fork of Bolt.New and extended the tool to make it possible to integrate your own local large language models—at zero cost. Fork: https://lnkd.in/eUHfUiu3 I can recommend to check out the project and set it up locally. If you need help please contact me. There is also a community that is willing to implement new features. Is an AI assistant still too early for us to accept or was it capable of assisting with things that should not be capable of achieving? One way or the other OpenAI is delaying the release of the advanced assistant for security reasons. Which is quite interesting as Google Assistant was moving this direction about 4 years ago and delayed due to concerns of the world adopting an artificial technology capable of these tasks. URL wouldn’t Show Link: https://lnkd.in/e-iEPmA2 This time around I’m sure we will see it come to fruition just may be a month or so later than expected. (2019 Release) of Google Assistant Advanced:
